Merry Christmas, Interweb! Though it's become part of a larger media conglomerate, the Chicago T.V. station famous for Bozo the Clown has dusted off some old footage from its archives. Among the goodies converted to Flash format are a Frosty the Snowman cartoon which inspired a bit of online detective work, as well as a more recent holiday favorite, The Yule Log.

Saturday morning TV schedules from the 1950s to today.

Saturday morning TV schedules from the 1950s to today. TV Guide presents the saturday morning
schedules for the big three ABC, NBC,
and CBS. Although looking through the listings is
a nice bit of nostalgia, what's really interesting is watching the rise and fall of
pop culture over the listings. From The Beatles
to I am the Greatest: The Adventures of Muhammad Ali
to Mr. T
to Ace Ventura.

Also starting in the 1990s,
you can see the networks moving away from saturday morning cartoons. There are several factors, the
main two being the Children's Television Act
(enacted in 1990), and cable television. Which unfortunately has led to the births of such monsters as Saved by the Bell.

Osama Bart Laden This is from the Simpsons Folder, simply the best of its kind, in my opinion, and home of my favorite wallpaper. The Bert Is Evil post has inspired me: What I'd like to see are your links to any and all the other post 9/11 cartoons, jpegs, gifs and so forth.

The Tragedy in Cartoons.

The Tragedy in Cartoons. One of the more interesting effects of a national tragedy is that it always somehow causes the nation's editorial cartoonists to suffer massive, collective brain damage. Across the country, they rush to their easels and whip up cheesy, embarrassing caricatures of Uncle Sam crying. Or the Founding Fathers crying. Or - in this case - a comparison to Pearl Harbor. Or - if your local cartoonist is feeling particularly creative - the always crowd-pleasing weeping Statue of Liberty. As Cagle notes, "Fully half the nation's cartoonists drew the same cartoon on the same day." Including Cagle himself. A tragedy in cartoons indeed. Some psychiatrist really ought to study this phenomenon.

WTC Editorial cartoons I don't know if they trivialize or symbolize, but they're often part of the artifacts we use to remember events like this.

Reverend Fun dishes out church-friendly daily cartoons like this one, which are sometimes [p]funny (and at other times stale). You can also get the funnies in your PDA.

Should I be flattered?

Should I be flattered? Or am I just overly paranoid? I used to cover my page with a cartoon dabitch ranting about ads, and huge "mail me" buttons (well huge buttons everywhere). It was some kind of faze I was going through last fall - In January this year BrandEra opened it's door - and they have the ad gal. This is kind of funny. :)

Space Ghost is old news. Brak is the new king.

Space Ghost is old news. Brak is the new king. His variety show "Brak Presents The Brak Show Starring Brak" on The Cartoon Network the other night was the surreal highlight of my TV year. Another episode comes along March 16th--miss it if you dare! And please, please, please let the mentioned CD of songs be real. My girlfriend called me at work today and played Brak's rendition of "Highway 40" to cheer me up!

So Charles Schulz ran out of ink about two hours ago, preceded in death by about five hours by Tom Landry. The worst part is, both were in my dead pool, which starts in about 24 hours. (The second-worst thing is all the "It's a sad day for Snoopy" and "Good grief" ledes we're going to have to endure. Blech.)

The Dallas Morning News obit went over the wires at 85 inches before Landy was even cold. Gee, you think they saw this one coming?
