If
chess is the game of kings...
The 2005
U.S. Chessmaster Championships are being held
right now, in 2004, here
in San Diego.
When you have tons of money and a lifelong passion,
like Erik
Anderson,
you can do things like prevent
the tourney's demise.
Keep your eyes on Hikaru
Nakamura
and Gata
Kamsky,
and ask yourself what Garry
Kasparov
will be doing this weekend.
Deep
Blue's
press secretary told me that he will not attend, but I
plan to stop by with my Ivan
II, The Conqueror.
And if I can't get in, I'll just stay home and read
a
book,
watch
a
movie
or do my damnedest to get my
kicks above
the waistline, sunshine.
(First one is Swedish, last one's a midi.)

Mobile Phone Throwing World Championships You can register either in Freestyle or Original (the traditional over the shoulder -style). Alternatively, you can register as a team (max. three persons / team). There's also have a Junior category for competitors of under 12 years. Grading in Freestyle is based on style and aesthetics, whereas in Original the grading is purely based on length and style. In both categories theree prizes will be awarded. The current Ukranian record is 57 metres.

The 2003 International Snow Sculpture championships occured last week, with once again a Canadian team taking top honors. Unfortunately due to unseasonably warm weather this year's competition doesn't seem to be as impressive as the 2002 event. Of course, none of them come close to the undisputed master of snow art, Calvin.

The US defeated in basketball World Championships by a dominant Argentina team. This breaks the record 58 non-stop winning series since the US allowed NBA players in 1992. I love this, just as I loved all the upsets at the FIFA world cup.
