Inspired by the creative re-use of dumpsters in Athens, Georgia by Curtis Crowe of the band
Pylon, the
Macro|Sea collective have taken the idea further, and have their first
dumpster pool space prototype up and
active in Brooklyn (
via). The group's big idea is to
revitalize strip malls across America. On the smaller scale, British artist Oliver Bishop-Young has "
turned skips into gold," by
refurbishing small skips into little ponds, parks, skate ramps, and micro meeting areas (
more details). On the more personal level, Michel de Broin created "Blue Monochrom," a
dumpster hot tub.

UnitConversion.org is quite the resource to easily convert between different units of measurement. It has over 2100 units in 78 categories, which range from those that are
common, such as,
length,
weight,
volume,
currency,
velocity, and
pressure, to more specialized categories like
magnetic flux density,
electrostatic capacitance, and
surface tension.

123 mm = 12 stacked CD cases. 6 miles = 30 Eiffel Towers. 5 acres = 11 ice hockey rinks.
Sensibleunits.com converts any length, area or mass into real objects.

Make me a Muslim. The recently aired three episodes show takes a glamour model who wants to experience being completely hidden under a dress ,a skin therapist looking for meaning of life, a taxi driver that strongly feels islam is threatening UK lifestyle, a school teacher who wants to learn, an interracial interreligion couple and a flaming gay hairdresser tired of shallow party life.
Take this colourful bunch and have two imams, a preacher and a converted woman lead them through an "islamic lifestyle" experience. You can watch the results
here , I guess at least for a while.

The SY Empire: A rare and fascinating look inside the secretive
Syrian Jewish community of Brooklyn, which has drawn a bright line against assimilation called the Edict that casts out for life any "SY" who marries a gentile, even if they convert. (

the American God? The herders of this remote mountain village know little about America, but have learned from those who run a US-funded aid program about the American God. A Christian God. ...

Be. The. Battery. A brilliantly simple concept will allow anyone who needs
(a small amount of) power to generate their own just by walking around while wearing this special backpack. By mounting the pack's load on springs connected to a rack and pinion device that is, in turn, connected to a small generator, the wearer's natural walking motion can generate up to 7.4 watts of power. Plenty enough to keep your Nofriendo DS charged. Or your sniper rifle's night scope.
The bonus? By having the pack's load on springs, the backpack is more comfortable and ergonomic than a traditional backpack too.

A fantastic example of old meets new, a man spends weeks crafting the perfect Christmas gift for his wife, with spectacular results. I give you the
typewriter-keyboard conversion: a true labor of love.
Makes me want to dig up my grandpa's old Underwood and give it a go.

Marine Refuses to Use Guns ... Marine Cpl. Joel D. Klimkewicz converted to the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day saints while in the Marines, and now believes that killing is against Jesus' teachings. As such, he refused to train with a gun though he says he would be willing to clear mines and work the front lines. The result is that the military has jailed him for his religious beliefs, convicting him of disobeying a direct order. Anyone think that Bill O'Reilly is going to say the military is trying to destroy Christianity?

The Guardian isn't so good at letting you link to their articles anymore. But if you use this link then click on "printable version" you might get to the site I want you to link to. My title being: If you're Jewish and American its hard to know whose side your on these days.
