Scattered industry advice on this topic varies from moderate to extreme, and while web analytics paint a convincing picture of web readers, some wonder if long form journalism has EVER worked. Of course there seem to be other factors at play, like methods of presentation and quality of content.

If you've actually edited copy under a deadline, or know someone who has, you know how thankless the job can sometimes be.
