(Still) Declassified.

(Still) Declassified. "In January 2009, I had an idea; photograph people in their homes that have placed a wide variety of personal advertisements. Although I imagined most people wouldn’t want to give up their anonymity, I rightly imagined some would be willing to. " Mark Andrew's personal website couldn't handle the first FPP posted by UbuRoivas--nerve.com is now hosting 13 of these images (with accompanying craigslists ads).

One image (still) possibly NSFW.

But she returned and now she's got a new plan. Check out the ad she put on Craigslist this afternoon. 16 bars for $800. "You got beats?? cd's?? envelopes?? yousendit?? protools? Whatever you got I'll try and find a way to work with it." Though she proclaims "I work fast, so you'll have em fast," you might want to be patient. Taco Day is one of the songs she really got known for - it's 9:14 long (the version on youtube is missing an entire chunk of the song). It's especially NSFW, written from the persona of an abused teen who goes crazy and takes out everybody in her path.

You're Not My Father

You're Not My Father Created by Paul Slocum.

From the project PDF Document:

This video project is composed of a sequence of recreations of a 10 second scene from the television show, Full House, overlaid with a set of sound loops from the scene's original music.

The crews who re-shot the scene were recruited through Internet message boards and Craigslist, and each of the original 10 crews were paid $150, using a commission of New Radio and Performing Arts, Inc., for Networked Music Review. The project included participants from Austin, Cincinnati, Chicago, Dallas, Denton, London, and San Francisco.

The following pages of this document are the instructions that were issued to the participants who responded to my ads and message board posts. Although the commission money has been exhausted, I am still accepting submissions to the project. If you are interested in participating, follow the instructions in the following pages of this document for shooting the scene and delivering the footage, and I will add the footage to the video sequence online and in any current or future gallery exhibitions.

Circuit Split on Online Housing Ads

Last month, Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals: you cannot sue Craigslist for housing ads that violate the Fair Housing Act. Full decision (PDF); summary and analysis. This week, Ninth Circuit: you can sue Roommate.com for housing ads that violate the Fair Housing Act. Full decision (PDF); summary and analysis. The difference? Roommate.com facilitates the violations with its insidious check-boxes. It all hinges on how the courts interpret a section of the Communications Decency Act, a question that the Supreme Court may have to settle.

Columbia Law grad is scammed, along with 78 other professionals, into working for free for weeks. Craigslist, some detective work, and the unusual motivation behind the scam all contribute to this interesting story of internets-related shenanigans.

Fate: 1 Internets: 0

Newsfilter: 30,000 customers in the San Francisco area lost power today at about 1:50pm PDT, in a series of power failures which knocked out a major datacenter hub: 365 Main. The hub controls servers for many social media sites, including Technorati, Netflix, Yelp, Craigslist and all Six Apart properties, including TypePad, LiveJournal and Vox. (6A's twitter stream has updates.) More here and here.

Amusingly enough, 365 Main tempted fate and released a press release today patting themselves on the back for "two years of 100-percent uptime".

Craig's List ad causes woman's home to be destroyed. We have all heard about the numerous Craig's List scams and pranks, but this one takes things to a new low. Vandals ripped apart Laurie Ray's house after an ad posted on Craig's List invited people to take anything, and everything, they wanted. From the light fixtures to the hot water heater, everything is gone - including the kitchen sink.
