Verminology is a specimen garden of monsters and beasts of the most pestiferous and meddlesome sort, drawn by fingertip on iPhone, using Brushes app. New additions daily. Also be sure to check out Toadbriar for dolls, paintings, sculpture, and Faerie fun!
Naive beach campers often fall victim while sleeping

This a fast offensive predator. First described by Reinthal, 1993, as voracious and a threat to shipping. Diurnal, collecting in dense aggregations along reef walls at night to sleep. Oweni is an insatiable consumer of almost everything of animal origin. Suspect in many human "shark" fatalities, although remains of victims have never been recovered - Field Notes and Drawings of Marine Creatures Captured or Observed by Xisle Expedition Biologist & Artist William Russell Curtsinger, PhD. .........

I actually came across this page while searching for something about marine bioluminescence, and was taken in for a tick or two. I hope a lot of other people fall prey in the same way and are lured into the same delicious wtf?-moment, because I think it's kind of adorable. Based on the species names, I think these might be tributes to friends and colleagues.

FF users, right click in images and select "view image" to see larger versions of the drawings.

Edo period creepy crawlies

Japan's National Diet Library Gallery has been mentioned here before, but the Pink Tentacle blog came across some fantastic late Edo period illustrations in the NDL Gallery by Kurimoto Tanshu (栗本丹洲, 1756 - 1834). Apparently he was a doctor, but he seems to be better known for his hundreds of biological illustrations. Many are of sea creatures, but there are also quite a few other plants and animals. ranging from realistic renditions to bizarre creatures. A huge and varied collection, but all are equally fascinating.

The Museum of Fantastic Specimens is an online (virtual) museum of taxidermy specimens of imaginary creatures, all created by hand by Japanese artist Hajime Emoto. The museum itself can be difficult to navigate, as all the links are in Japanese, so the link in this post goes to an unrelated overview page in English.

Stoopid Creetures

"These are the conditions under which I will not immediately throw away your donation: all socks are welcome, though I prefer colorful, interesting socks with a different colored toe and heel. a little hole here or there won't hinder the creaturfication process, but threadbare socks with big worn patches you can see through are not preferred. Send no pantyhose or nylons, please." John Murphy used to make beasts out of clay.
