The One and Only Damita Jo Freeman

Damita Jo Freeman is awesome. In more ways than one. Her appearance with Joe Tex would have gotten her fired had it not boosted Soul Train's ratings. As one of the more successful of many Soul Train Dancers, Damita Jo was instrumental in standing up for better working conditions for the dancers. Also, she is is partially responsible for teaching Michael Jackson how to moonwalk. Read all about this amazing woman here.

94-year-old Mathilda Klein does not believe in letting age keep her off the dance floor. SLYT.

Beautiful Dynamite

Cyd Charisse passed away today at 86. Part of the MGM Golden Age, she first started out in minor roles usually as a dancer (1:52). It wasn't until the Gotta Dance routine with Gene Kelly in Singin' in the Rain did she begin to get meatier roles. [more inside]

Remember the Alamo, but don't forget Poleland

Texan judge rules $5 "pole tax" violates First Amendment rights. Further, Judge Scott Jenkins found no evidence to justify the purpose of HB 1751 (PDF), finding the anecdotal link of the patronage of strip clubs with a lack of health insurance and increased sexual assault rates for dancers insufficient, and ordered the state to pay the plaintiffs' legal fees. Activists are already looking to appeal Jenkins' ruling and reenact the tax. (Previously on Metafilter.)

Will the Real Mr. Six Please Stand Up?

A creepy old man, known as Mr. Six, has spent the last couple of years dancing on commercials for Six Flags amusement parts. He's clearly a fake old man (a young person in makeup). So who plays Mr. Six? Six Flags won't say, many people speculate, but this guys thinks he knows.

Remember Tunak Tunak Tan? Here's footage of a bunch of people (the University of Buffalo Pep Band) dancing to Tunak Tunak Tan. The original video was previously discussed on MeFi here.

All Hail

All Hail Christopher Walken. He has given us some of the most out-there/bocephus movie performances, he has become patron saint of the cowbell, and he has done freaky dances in our favorite music videos. I propose we raise a toast to the man, the myth, the legend, the Walken.
