To some, Exclaim! is more or less the northern equivalent of Pitchfork, a free monthly mag for the hipster masses. But I've always enjoyed the way their Questionnaire page provides an often surprisingly clear glimpse into an odd array of celebrities' lives. This month's subject is Motörhead’s Lemmy. Some of my past personal favorites: David Cross (How do you spoil yourself? "I’ll jerk off and just let it fly, I won’t get a sock or a tissue.") Rob Zombie (What was your most memorable day job? "Working on Pee Wee's Playhouse as a production assistant when I lived in New York, in about 1984 or '85.") Tricky (What are your feelings on piracy, internet or otherwise? "Anything that takes the power [from] record companies means we’re gonna start hearing good music — they only give us what is gonna sell.") Benjamin Weinman (Current fixations: "No fixations. "Doing the thing I love most in life… mowing my lawn.") *as a side-note, I find it highly amusing that Trey Parker and Matt Stone share the same concept of a visionary piece of art with Rob Zombie.

Jeffrey Lewis brings you The Complete History of Punk Rock and Its Development on the Lower East Side (1950-1975) in eight and a half minutes. A comic book artist and antifolk singer, he makes "low budget docu mentaries." And videos. Sometimes for his songs. Sometimes for other people's songs. Sometimes for his songs about other people's songs. Sometimes other people make actual low-budget documentaries about him. Or actual low-budget videos for him. I've always lumped musician Eugene Chadbourne in with the likes of Wesley Willis and Daniel Johnston, but I may have been mistaken. While his songs are often absurd, experimental, and silly, he's much less eccentric than I'd always thought. In addition to having an incredible output (full discography with notes here and in-depth review here), he has worked with everyone from John Zorn to Jello Biafra, even fronting the band Camper Van Beethoven as Camper Van Chadbourne. He has also been a writer for MaximumRocknRoll and AMG and is the inventor of the electric rake (a musical instrument that would certainly annoy your neighbors). YouTube has two awesome Chadbourne finds: THIS is a 19-minute documentary about him and THIS is a cable access show he appeared on called I'm Going to Make a Drug with My Mind (if you like cable access television, this is awesome, but please note that this video is 31-minutes long, including 60 seconds of color bars.
