The fabulous and lesser-known exploits of John Z. DeLorean

The DeLorean DMC-12 is a really cool car. But if you have a hard time finding one for sale, try looking for a DeLorean snowcat. Alas, the DeLorean sedan, bus, and all-terrain vehicle were never mass-produced, and it's unclear if his monorail patent was ever monetized. [more inside]

Bigger than the Tunguska blast of 1909!

LEGO's Cuuso system (previously) has chosen their next fan-submitted set release. The previous one was the "Back to the Future" Delorean, and it appears they are sticking with the "Beloved Sci-Fi/Comedy vehicles of the 1980's" theme. Get ready to build Ecto 1 (official video announcement with pictures of the winner and runners up)!

Z is for Zelda, Zeppelin, Zombie and Zardoz "for comic relief"

Alphabet Blocks for a Geek Baby "Amateur engineer/designer" Jonathan M. Guberman made his newborn son a set of custom engraved wooden alphabet blocks, with "things that his mother and I were looking forward to sharing with him" on 4 of the 6 sides. (See them all here) "The only real rule I followed in choosing subjects was trying to maintain an even gender balance" which makes them even more awesome. (Of course, your choices for certain letters may vary)

My money's still on Sammy & Dean

Inspired by previous Road Rally races such as The CannonBall Run, a modern incarnation of the cross-country rally has emerged. Since 2007, the Fireball Run has taken place, with its 2000+ mile course varying from year to year. More than just a road race, the Fireball Run bills itself as an "Adventur-rally", relying more on cleverness than sheer speed. Organizer's compare it more to a "scavenger hunt", suggesting that a knowledge of history and local trivia are more valuable than driving skill. (in fact, racers are monitored so as not to be allowed to drive "unsafely.") [more inside]

Back to the electric future

DeLorean goes electric: Due to hit the market in early 2013, the company says the DMC-EV will cost $90,000 (£57,000) and is aiming for a first production run of 300 vehicles.

Where we're going we don't need roads...

Quadrotors? Check. Flying Delorean? Check. Roads? No need. While a full-size model may still be a few years away, this crafty Russian tinkerer has constructed his very own hover-conversion model Delorean, and the results are pretty darn cool. (SLYT)

Daft Punk manqué + DeLorean

With only about as much effort as manufacturing one’s own Great Pyramid of Giza, Atlanta prop-builder Harrison Krix designs and constructs his own Daft Punk–style helmet, complete with 320 red LEDs along the visor and twin cooling fans. (Delightful time-lapse making-of video [YouTube]. Design process: Part 1Part 2Part 3.) Now, what are you supposed to do with a prop like that? Pop it on and pose next to a DeLorean, obviously.

"We're gonna see some serious shit."

Every kid who grew up in the 80's wanted a DeLorean. Well, it seems that that dream may yet come true.
