Peter Jackson Does WWI

Crossing the Line a trailer for a short film by Peter Jackson. Unfortunately, this isn't a trailer for a full-length movie. Jackson did it as a test of the RED Digital Cinema camera. The camera has a relatively low price ($17,500) and apparently this is an exciting thing for independent filmmakers. I don't understand any of the technical stuff about it. I just like WWI films and Peter Jackson. Some stills and a link to Quicktime version here. Previous Mefi thread about the camera.

Pixel noise identifies digital cameras

Pixel noise identifies digital cameras. Every original digital picture is overlaid by a weak noise-like pattern of pixel-to-pixel non-uniformity. Although these patterns are invisible to the human eye, the unique reference pattern or "fingerprint" of any camera can be electronically extracted by analyzing a number of images taken by a single camera. Fridrich's lab analyzed 2,700 pictures taken by nine digital cameras and with 100 percent accuracy linked individual images with the camera that took them. [via Arstechnica]

loretta lux and ann arbor

Photoshop is fourteen years old this month. I am sitting in its hometown and have version 7 on my Gateway. Loretta Lux was trained as a painter and now uses digital images via photoshop for her art. (NYTimes article) News photographers have lost their jobs for using it. Some would argue that photoshop is a new medium and I would agree. I will use it next to shape the images that will promote my sons' landscaping business.
