The moment has been prepared for.

Something is coming. Not Winter (well, yes, that), but the new half-series of Doctor Who. Here's the prequel to this weekend's episode: The Bells of St Johns. And here's what you really want: Madame Vastra, Jenny 'n' Strax The Sontaran in: A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To London, Boy. [more inside]

The Idiot's Lantern

Some people like Doctor Who. Some people like The Big Lebowski. If they were fused together in a Gluon Chamber they might look something like this shot-for-shot remake of the Big Lebowski trailer made by US fans for the recent Gallifrey One convention. (Original trailer and a side-by-side version for comparison).

I declare war on the moon!

It's November, and that means Children In Need, and that means new Doctor Who. Which this year sees the return of everyone's favourite Victorian great detective Madame Vastra, her beautiful companion Jenny, and their ugly manservant Strax. And, of course, that serves as a lead in to The Snowmen.

Doom doom doom doom doom doom doom doom doom doom doom doom

There are only seven weeks until we run out of Doctor Who until Christmas! So, what should you do? Well, it's 2012, so what better way than to look at the end of the world, as visualised in the 1970s, and watch some Doomwatch? Doomwatch was was created by Gerry Davies and Kit Pedler, who originated Doctor Who's Cybermen, and were the show's early scientific advisors. [more inside]

Contains dinosaurs on a spaceship as promised

It's just past 6am in the United Kingdom, and that means the trailer for Series 7(a) of the New Doctor Who has been released to the Internet. It follows this striking desktop image featuring many, many older model Daleks, including the Special Weapons Dalek (not seen since 1988).

RIP Mary Tamm

Mary Tamm, best known as the first Romana from Doctor Who's Key To Time series between 1978–1979, has died. She left the show after just one year feeling that her role had devolved into the "typical assistant" trope, and went to to have a varied career on stage and screen in the UK, including a three-year stint on Brookside. She had been suffering from cancer for 18 months.
