Intense debate about weighty issues like racism, abortion, and immigration... between animals in funny hats! This is the silly punditry of Scenario: Dog v. Cat
: Round 1
, round 2
, round 3

has had two tours in Iraq," Jerome Lee said. "He's been through a lot, and we just want to get Lex home to our family
and let him have a happy life." It is the first time a working dog has been granted retirement to live with a handler's family. [more inside]

"While we were there, sitting by the fire one night, I saw an extraordinary-looking dog that appeared to have two noses.
I was sober at the time, and then I remembered the story that the legendary explorer Colonel Percy Fawcett
came back with in 1913 of seeing such strange dogs in the Amazon jungle", explains fellow British Colonel John Blashford-Snell. The double-schnoz phenomenon has been documented in other species
, and has even been studied
, and synthesized
in humans. But a clue has recently been discovered in Bolivia that hints at not just a random mutation, but what might have once been a multi-snouted dog breed.

Poor, poor Wiley the dog. One Spring day, she got out of her yard and wandered aimlessly for a while. Wanting to help the lost animal find some direction, some vandals thoughtfully spray
her. Tragically, poor Wiley has since had to admit her painful secret to the world. She isn't literate
. Forced to admit her shameful problem, hopefully she'll get some help

The World's Most Amazing Dog
(YouTube) A clip from Montel Williams' show about a dog born without front legs. The owner has trained it to walk upright. As my boyfriend said, "After watching this, I'll never complain about anything in my life again."

Looks like a raccoon
like a raccoon, tastes like a dog? Technically a member of the canid family and considered to be a species of dog, the raccoon dog, or tanuki
, is hunted in Japan to the tune of 70,000 animals killed annually for use in the production of calligraphic brushes
, stuffed animals, and, apparently, ramen flavoring
. The really interesting thing about the tanuki is its place in Japanese myth
. The mythical tanuki are full of mischief, masters of shapeshifting, and possessors of unusually large testicles
. Comic depictions of tanuki often show them with their testicles thrown over their backs or using them as drums. Does the existence of the tanuki shed any light on an often posted (and otherwise inexplicable) photo

Good journey, Joop.
"Joop was our handsome goodhearted 'boerenfox' (farmer's fox terrier). For three good years, he lived with us in the small town of Paterswolde, The Netherlands.
We found Joop in 2002 in an animal shelter
in Zuidwolde. Joop was a canine supermodel."
The Dog Log
shows Joop's life
in pictures and his human's in words. Joop passed away August 8, 2005 from cancer and has quite a following on Flickr.com
. Being the owner of a 14-year-old dog, the display of support really touched me and the photos are beautiful.
