Samuel Shanahoy a.k.a. Teevee Dinner

Samuel Shanahoy is a femme punk transboy from Australia who enjoys teen culture and eating outta trashcans. You can read an interview or two, his tips on dumpster diving, and if you live in Vancouver, see his first full-length film premier tomorrow.
Not in Vancouver? You can watch a music video or read an interview about making it, see a short film about queer skaters learning that girl love is better than girl hate, swoon over a dreamy fairy-tale-inspired photoshoot, or watch his NSFW X-Rated directorial debut. [more inside]

Dumpster Turf Wars

Garbage In/Gold Out Which is more important: recycling or the garbage collector's bottom line? Some Oregon cities are backing up the garbage collectors over recyclers. Too bad. First time I've ever seen a dumpster diving company who has a web page with testimonials from police officers.

no one ever plans to sleep out in the gutter, sometimes that's jsut the most comfortable place.

Freegans !
Because so much is trashed in our society, a freegan lifestyle can be one of great abundance -- food, books, magazines, comic books, newspapers, videos, music (CDs, cassettes, records, etc.), carpets, musical instruments, clothing, rollerblades, scooters, furniture, vitamins, electronics, pet care products, games, toys, bicycles, artwork, and just about any other type of consumer good can be found in the discards of retailers, institutions, and individuals simply by rummaging through their trash bins, dumpsters, and trash bags.

Beer + Bums = Free Housing.

Beer + Bums = Free Housing. Being a bum isn't easy. You have to panhandle lots of money, go Dumpster diving for treasure and hit up the friendly neighborhood liquor store a few times a day. Luckily, Seattle is finally recognizing how tough it is to bum for booze. Fat Tire with that free apartment, anyone? (Via The Raven)
