Friday Flash Fun: Japanese designer
Tesshi-e makes beautiful, evocative, maddening
escape games. Most recent among them is
Escape Hotel 4. You may like to check into rooms
3,
2 or
1. Or perhaps you'd prefer to escape from the
tatami room, the
small bar, the
hexagon room, the
dome room or the
restroom. Examine every item carefully, because nothing is quite as it seems. Expect a lot of lateral thinking and a sprinkling of maths. And before you leave, be sure to take one last look for the Happy Coin:
Happy coin will bring happiness to you!! English-language reviews and walkthroughs are
here.

This year marks a decade of
Strong Bad Emails, sent from Strong Bad's desk. Next to his computer sits a box of
floppy discs, often displaying game titles. If you missed those titles, the detail-oriented
Homestar Runner wiki (
previously)
provides game titles, summaries, and links. Many of the games are old computer games like
Rise of the Dragon or
Miner 2049er, and some titles are linked to
Lord_Pall's
revived Home of the Underdogs abandonware game archive. Other games have links to
the Videlectrix catalog, where you can see
box art and
play some demos. Or you can go back to the Homestar Runner wiki, and go to the list of
playable Videlectrix titles, like
50k Racewalker (
play online)
Polulation: Tire (
play online) or
Peasant's Quest (
play online) (More previous stuff:
Peasant's Quest and
Where's An Egg?).

If you enjoy games like Myst and Riven, take a crack at
Cageling. It's a good thing your prison is a luxurious rococo palazzo, because you'll probably be there for a while.

Skid MK is a fiendishly addictive and entertaining Mario Kart clone which has already taken up far too much of my week. Developers
Conix Games also made a top-down zombie shooter in the Robotron tradition called
Daytraders of the Dead, which is just about as addictive.

Friday Flash Fun:
Mamono Sweeper is Minesweeper with role-playing elements. A number of monsters with levels from 1 to 5 are hidden in the grid. Your task is to kill them all. When you click on a square with a monster, you battle against that monster until you or the monster is dead. If the monster is your level or below, you take no damage, but if it is of a higher level, you
will get hurt, and possibly die. Empty squares show the sum of the levels of the monsters in all adjacent squares. You start out at level 1 with 10 hit points, and each monster you kill gives you experience points towards the next level. You cannot recover lost hit points. Use the A and D keys to mark squares. Good luck!

Loved
Nanaca Crash? Want to hurl a turtle instead?
Toss the Turtle will be right up your alley. Easy concept, shoot turtle from cannon and watch him bounce and blow up as he careens across the screen. Enjoy!

Kinpira is a shockwave-game where you play a baby samurai out to rescue his mother. You run around a 3d landscape, all of which you can pick up and throw, once you grow strong enough to lift it. To start with you're picking up vases and other light items but soon enough you're lobbing houses around and eventually entire mountains. It's vaguely reminiscent of Mario 64 and Katamary Damacy.

Friday Flash Fun: Green Moon Lab! Manipulate gravity and momentum to get to the exit in this sleek, simple,
Portal-esque physics puzzler. Contains twenty levels plus an unlockable challenge mode. A little weak in the writing department, but the drunken swooping gameplay more than makes up for it. (

Oiligarchy is a resource management game reminiscent of their earlier
McDonald's Game. Build your empire and keep the shareholders (all old, bald, white men) happy. Social activism wrapped inside an (admittedly simplified) game!

FFF: Pac Xon is like
Qix, only with graphics from Pac Man, and the red ghosts eat your territory, and the popsicles freeze the ghosts. So maybe it's not so much like Qix, but it's similarly addictive. [

Friday Flash Fun: Dolphin Edition. It takes a little practice, and you probably should read the directions first.

Fishy is a simple, relaxing, hypnotic, zen-like, and infuriating game. Control your fish with the arrows. Eat fish smaller than you. Avoid fish larger than you. The more you eat, the more you grow.
