Do Your Damn Taxes (flash video) is an amusing little movie about a dude and his 1040 form, getting ready for the big day. From the same guy that did merry christmas from james.

Every holiday seaon, some little web outfit puts together a really cool flash app. Make-a-Flake is that app. Here's my stab at a pirate themed snowflake (note the anchors, which was an accident).

Art.com's Art Pad is a fun little flash app that lets you paint a masterpiece, frame it, then hang it. Check out my handiwork. I'll start the opening bids at $50,000 for the piece. [via redferret]

Flickr's been around as a photo posting/gallery/sharing kind of place for almost a year now, but today they launched something pretty impressive (ignore the dumb name): Organizr. Check out the demo movies or try it out yourself if you already have photos there. This is the first time I've used a web application that rivaled my desktop application of choice (iPhoto, for photos). Pretty impressive what you can do in Flash these days, besides singing kittens and work-dodging games.

A couple months back, there was a cool flash-based front-end to Google News that displayed topics and their relative importance based on size. Now comes another visualization that's a little bit more abstract, but can be used in the same way, to get "a picture" of what the world considered news on any given day (and it has archives). Slick stuff, rollover all the colored boxes to see topics and click to see archived data.

Naked is a gallery of sixteen regular people in various stages of undress (using an innovate flash interface). It has extensive interviews with the participants, talking about how they feel about their bodies and being nude in general. It's about as far from being erotic as possible (and rightly so), instead aiming to get viewers thinking about how they confront their own body image issues and how they feel about nudity.

Hold the button proves the best flash apps are the most simple (and pointlessly stupid). Try it once and you'll quickly understand how nuts the top scores are.

Typical jokes aside, the Make Your Own Bush Speech application is a great use of flash. Some fun hints: layer phrases over one another for added effect, and always end with the "afghanistan and beyond" blurb. Now if I could only save the speeches out as mp3 files, and layer some beats underneath...

Cooking With Bigfoot is a flash series about a former TV star turned cable cooking show host (that happens to be a sasquatch). Episode one is up and looks like it could be a fine series when the rest are in place.

The Mondo Mini Shows at Altavista are brilliantly funny flash movies. I especially enjoyed the Steve Jobs Macworld Keynote and the Pamela Anderson interview. There's parodies of political candidates and other celebrities too, hilarious stuff. [thanks backupbrain]

This is one of the most amazing new flash sites I've seen in a while. Very cool anime illustrations in a movie preview-style clip.

This site is one of the most extensive flash sites I've ever seen, especially for a personal site. I admit that 90% of it is window dressing, and the transitions between sections are a bit long, but the amazing artwork makes up for it. I didn't think a lot of the effects used on the site were even possible in flash.

I'm a sucker for gee-whiz web browser tricks. This site isn't that bad, you can close your browser window after it starts racing around the screen, or just alt-F4, or command-q to kill your browser. A cooler use of browser-movement trickery is this flash site, notice how their banner slams into place, jarring the browser.

Wow, this is a great flash site that I've never heard of until I read about it in a book. I can't remember the last time I found a new site in a book. It's funny, with the instantaneous nature of the web and the prevalence of weblogs, it's not often that you see something new from something that was probably written and printed six months ago. Actually, the book has a lot of great finds in it, and it's great to look at.
