Green Flash bashes Bush

Green Flash bashes Bush
Greenpeace is launching a contest to highlight the absurdity of the Bush positions on climate change and/or missile defence using Macromedia Flash. The contest, open to everyone and having no prize other than a link, runs through July 6th and should be almost as much fun as the 5k.

Le Piano Graphique music simulator. A few keystrokes and a bit of Shockwave and -- VoilĂ ! -- you've created a musical/artistic masterpiece.

Armenian Holocaust

Armenian Holocaust - This was discussed earlier this year. I ran across this very well done flash site and was amazed at how presentation can affect one's views on a subject. Although aware of the story, it seems more real presented this way.

More UK political, flash 5 tie in games to pass the time. The creators of these games should be the ones to manage the parties promotions then I'm sure more people would vote politics than who gets voted out of the big brother house

Star Wars + Flash + Rap = Goodness

Star Wars + Flash + Rap = Goodness This is the funniest thing that I've seen in quite some time. I don't think it's been posted before, but this thing had me rolling on the floor this early Friday afternoon.

If your looking for terrific writing and a gallery of flash art/movies updated monthly, you might want to check out Spark Online. There are a lot of E/N and discorse sites out there, but few I've stuck with as long as Spark. Their forums are usually hot with debate and quality insights. (Again, one of my favs)

John Prescott get's hit by an egg. 24 hours later there are jokes flying around and this Flash Game springs up as well. How quickly do these people work.. Do they know that these incidents are going to happen before they happen, maybe they are aliens???... maybe there's a government conspiracy... maybe hmm just maybe.. To the bat cave!!

What is a Print?

What is a Print? is perhaps the coolest bit of informative interactive Flash work I have seen. Well explained, meaningful interaction (not just click and watch), clean, and the transitions aren't too slow. Nice. (Props to xplane for the link.)

I was looking at this flash stick fight, when I looked for its origin, I found this bit filed under "Western Culture". Is this western culture? kill, power, bad boy, child criminal, morality, abortion, alcohol, castration, hot or not, cleavage, gays on tv in America, indulgence, cosmetic surgery, and cyber-subversives? Like, zoinks.

Great little shockwave game here. Like a little slice of childhood.. I remember putting together these racetracks and racing those little electric cars along them. Great fun, and there's even a 2 player option. Sweet.

A Flash usability white paper

A Flash usability white paper that says Flash can improve the usability of a web site.
"When executed correctly, with attention paid to the needs and wants of users, Macromedia Flash content can actually improve the user experience on any Web site."
Can Flash be saved if developers start thinking about usability? Is this going to impact Jakob Nielsen's 99% figure?

So that's how it works. A lonely flash animator toils away in the name of medicine. The voice over sounds a lot like Jeff Goldblum. Link was found on Medbroadcast.com.

Center of the World

Center of the World is a dynamic flash site that takes the viewer into a strip club where he (or she i s'pose) can interact with girls. it's pseudo 3D and there are some other nifty things the creators did to make the experience seem live. It may be soft core porn, but it's really high tech softcore porn with a spiffy interface (found on markside )

The reason Flash,

The reason Flash, and quite possibly the Internet itself, was created. It's got a single brief AYBABTU reference, but apart from that, it's pure, random, lunatic genius.

About as creepy as an old copy of Creepy,

About as creepy as an old copy of Creepy, but much funnier and much more crude. Flash stuff in the old Mad magazine vein. And best of all, no banner ads and largely non-commercial.

So why aren't their more original, non-arty, non-techno-ey, non-animal-abusing, non-commercial Flash things like this?

Popularity kills: nosepilot hit (almost) into oblivion

Popularity kills: nosepilot hit (almost) into oblivion Not all Flash sucks: many of us who have dreamed of putting our fists through the screen at yet another stupid corporate Flash intro loved Al Sacui's dreamy little piece. But now Sacui is looking for some way to cover or modify his ISP's $16,000 bill (which he just found out about yesterday -- no warning beforehand that traffic was a problem). He's hoping to sort out the financial problems and has people in contact with his ISP re the debt, but what he really needs is someone to mirror or co-host the 4.8 Mb of files that make up the site. Can you help out?

"For the past week I have read Jakob Nielsen's Flash alertbox over and over again and came to a startling revelation. It seems that Jakob got the title all-wrong. Flash is not 99% bad, as the usability guru says... Flash is 99% Proof, as in alcohol."

http://www.otnemem.com

http://www.otnemem.com is the first movie Web site that ever made me eager to see a movie I haven't heard a thing about. It won't open in the US till March, but it looks awfully clever, and I'm always up for a good short-term-memory-loss revenge thriller. And it's a site whose all-Flash version is better than the HTML version - another rarity. Also, the domain name is pretty clever - the movie's name spelled backwards, which turns out to be thematically and structurally appropriate to the movie.

With all the recent MeFi Flash-trashing and usability-ranting in mind, I am just now getting around to the viewing the website for Darren Aronofsky's Requiem for a Dream (Flash required). Aronofsky defends the site in a brief interview with the online version of print mag Entertainment Weekly. It certainly could be classified as annoying, but then, that appears to be Aronofsky's point. Coming from anyone less talented than he, I'd say it was just posturing; here, I'm not sure...

Macromedia Purchases Clue

Macromedia Purchases Clue
Looks like the folks at Macromedia have finally come around to the fact that Flash is getting a really bad usability rap. They have launched a token usability section on their site. I thought the four sites they picked as 'Usability examples' were very telling of their understanding of the issues. [via Flazoom]
