Philip J. Kaplan is probably best known as the founder of Fuckedcompany which chronicled the bustiest parts of the dot-com boom Fewer, perhaps, recognize him in his guise as power-glam-rocker Beef Savage. Beef has been silent for years, but has now been (barely) reinvented as The Metalizer. "I take regular songs (that suck) and turn them into heavy metal songs (that ROCK)."

FuckedCompany knocked offline for two days due to headlines that sounded like Ford's advertising slogans. While FC is no stranger to cease and desist orders, Ford threatened the web host directly, who ended up pulling the plug. Was Ford in the right, or did they overstep their bounds? Personally, it sounds a lot like suing a newspaper when a headline plays on your advertising.

PK Interactive receives funding from idealab According to the article on Yahoo News, "New York's PK Interactive, best known as the owner and publisher of popular "dot-com deadpool" site, F---edcompany.com, has received $18 million in private funding from idealab and its existing investors, Chase Capital Partners, Flatiron Partners and TechFund Capital." Sort of a strange turn of events, no?

Netmind.com service no longer operational - Mind-it, the free personalized tracking service from NetMind, was a very handy tool to let people know when a web site's content changed. This was great for infrequently updated sites.

PrintCafe sues idiot. Literally. They are suing several individuals who posted anonymous comments on F---edCompany's message boards. So far, all they have are the aliases the comments were posted under, namely "Ex-DLJ", "sucky-me", and "idiot!". Apparently that's all they're going to get, since Pud says here, "FC servers contain no logs ". Also of note is item number 4 on this page of the letter Pud received.

World's Greatest CEO? Comparison shopping site MySimon.com had its namesake character animated by Blur studios, and placed into a live-action commercial where he goes to a party and tells everyone how much cheaper they could have gotten various items in attendance. Apparently Frank DiMauro of Chapel Hill, NC didn't like the commercials and told the CEO of the animation studio who really could've cared less what Frank thought. I wish all CEO's had the nutz to reply to jerks like this guy. (Thanx to the Digital Pimps at BadAssMofo for this story and link).

Is Slashdot Toast? I found this using a link from F**kedcompany, who seems to be rather amused by the fact that /. has been down since friday. The posts at geekizoid seem rather flaky for the most part, so I don't know how seriously to take this. But in any case, it's just not like the Slashdot crew to drop off the net without a word.... What have all of you out in MeFi land heard????

From Hells's heart, I stab at thee? The link is to F*ck*d Company, which has just announced that Automatic Media has just cashed out, and properties Plastic.com, and Suck.com are about to get toetagged. Anyone want to say a few words over the coffin?

See what's cooking in the Poison Kitchen--I think it's a great F***ed Company-style site for journalists.

Update on FuckedCompany.com. A lesson for all those who pooh-pooh'ed Pud's move to start a subscriber service from his free site: he's now got 860 subscribers paying an average of $63/month, so he's making over $650K a year. Not bad in less than 2 months. Article is a couple of days old, but I missed it when it came out - sorry if it's old news =)

Is Speech Recognition Software: What is it good fowah? [caution: link to the vulgar FC]. The apparent demise, or at least fraud, of Lernout & Hauspie inspires me to ask whether speech recognition software can be used to create more than garbage writing, fast. As an attorney, I spent a good chunk of the 1990's trying to get permission from people born in the 1940's to draft my own documents with a keyboard rather than a Dictaphone. Fortunately, I don't think SR programs will ever catch on for more than commanding a computer do something. But maybe I'm completely wrong?

Fucked Company goes commercial. The free web site continues as is, but as "pud" points out, he's received over 40,000 "tips" and only posted 1,400 of them. Want to see them all? You can see all Comments for $25/mo and Comments + Rumors, unfiltered, for $75/mo. This kid is a genius. Get enough free, contributed content and collect enough archival info to be useful, THEN start charging for full access. Hey, wait a minute, you guys-n-gals running MeFi aren't thinking about....?

We Live In... Hell? Tanya Corrin on Josh Harris as profoundly fucked company: "By day 60, I had to get out. By day 78, still unable to find an apartment, I chose couch surfing instead of remaining in a very public nightmare." On the one hand, deeply satisfying; on the other, deeply sad.

Fucked Company is raising money for the victims at Edgewater Technology, "our fellow Internet workers [who] went to work and were murdered." Seems a tad insincere, given that his original reaction to the incident was "Booyah." Then again, there's now a menorah in the FC logo. Perhaps Pud has found God.

DotComFailures Lives Up To Its Name!
May I use this occasion to jumpstart a meme for a new acronym: T.O.F.I. - Too Obvious For Irony.
Also notable for the article's use of F***edCompany.com's full name, but then, didn't a rumor find its way into this very forum that FC and DCF were related?

The Fucked Company community are not being fair to Bryan. (via BryanBoyer.com). With various different threads they are being more than cruel to him. I personally found his blog about his startup rather fascinating. This maybe a good time to reevaluated our perception of FC as a website/game/community.

A dose of reality. I apologize for the content of this URL, but this is just too funny not to post. Finally, the world gets a dose of reality that .com != good company.

"FuckedCompany.com is a game based on the classic deadpool, but instead of betting for (or against) people, you're betting on companies. FuckedCompany.com has also pretty much turned into the source for news about dot-com companies. Bad news, that is. "
