Bloodless war game

Oral histories indicate that slahal is an ancient game, dating to before the last ice age. At times discouraged, this gambling game is still being played. Also known as the bone game and the hand or stick game, the rules are simple: guess which hand holds the unmarked bone. But while your team tries to guess, the opposing team will confuse you with chants and drumming and music. And you do the same to them. An entire game can be quite loud and quite subtle. A short documentary.

Small Worlds

Small Worlds is an exploration game created by David Shute for JayisGames' Casual Gameplay Design Competition 6 (the theme this time around was "exploration"). It's short and there are no enemies to kill or items to pick up but it has faux pixelly gorgeousness and decently atmospheric music. Protip: the controls really don't like you hitting jump and moving sideways at the same time. To jump horizontally, first hit the jump key then hit the key to move sideways after.

Eroge for All Seasons

Japan has a flourishing market for video games featuring adult content, or Eroge. Unfortunately, the sole exposure of some westerners to this wide genre may be through the controversy surrounding the irredeemably disgusting Rapelay (previously). That's a shame, because there is wide variation in content and gameplay focus in even the small subset of Eroge games translated and released for the western market by specialty publishers like Peach Princess and G-Collections. For every Rapelay or Water Closet (which should only be played if you wish to subsequently gouge out your eyes with a dull spoon), there are games like Amorous Professor Cherry, The Sagara Family, or Come See Me Tonight, which at least attempt a coherent narrative love story and usually reward empathetic behavior.

Even these games are only more subtly misogynistic, unfortunately; the female characters are targets, first and foremost, as evidenced by the fact that the most difficult endings to obtain in each game feature unlikely sexual couplings of two or more of the female characters with the first-person narrator, which are known as "harems" in Eroge game parlance.

Which brings me to my two final examples of Eroge, and the only two such games I've played thus far that I would recommend to a wide (mature) audience: Kana: Little Sister (for those concerned, no actual fictional blood relatives are banged in the course of gameplay), and Crescendo. Both are visual novels, include only a few mature scenes in the course of several hours of gameplay, and attempt to evoke complex emotions and leave a lasting impression on the player.

March 5, 2011 – Clark County, VA – A FEMA camp was liberated today, one of two still controlled by the war criminals loyal to Obama.
Conquerors 2009 “There are many underhanded ways of making your conker harder. The best is to pass it through a pig." World Conker Champion – Charlie Bray. The World Conker Championships are on this weekend. All the action from last year. previously [1] [2]
In other news, a cure for bleeding canker has been found, with a welcome side effect, leaf miners don't like having garlic breath.

Plumbers Don't Wear Ties

Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, the legendarily awful 3DO game, is now fully playable on YouTube. It is a (barely) "Interactive Romantic Comedy," whose main selling point is its "17+" rating for innuendo, language, and censored nudity. (Walkthrough inside) Walkthrough:

He makes a first move!
He plans a vigorous assault later on!
The hairball takes advantage of the situation!!
Our heroine declines the disgusting proposal!
John heroically dashes off to save Jane!!
Jane rejects the power.
I want the Hollywood ending!!

Or just watch the individual scenes in whatever order you want.

Clockwords. Type words to destroy robotic insects intent on stealing your secrets. Fair warning: there's a pay-to-unlock-more-powerful-letters scheme buried in there, but the free content is still worthwhile IMO.

Which One Is the Original?

So you think you can tell Arial from Helvetica? Take 20 logos that were originally designed in Helvetica, and redo them in Arial. Some people would call that blasphemy. Instead, call it a challenge: can you tell which is the original and which is the remake?

Hi, How Are You is a really fun iPhone game based on the music and art of Daniel Johnston. Imagine QBert crossed with Super Mario 64 and WarioWare Touched mixed together in a blender with Daniel Johnston, and you pretty much have it.
