Collect 'Em All!

This is a game about breeding flowers. Each flower's traits are determined by its genes. Pick two flowers and their genes combine to create new variations. There is no aim in this game... Feel free to set yourself one. -- Rare Breeds: Petunia. (Flash.) [more inside]

EscarGO!

Katatsumuri (Escargone) (mirror here, in case you don't want to sit through a commercial), a Super Mario-ish Flash game from Japan, except instead of an Italian plumber, you are a snail. With a mustache. From the fine folks at SKT. Left click to jump, left click and hold to climb walls, reach the end-of-level ring before the time runs out. Watch the animation before each level to see what new obstacles and enemies are in store.

AcceleRacers: Track Mod

AcceleRacers: Track Mod is a fun little Pipe-Dream-esque Flash game in which your object is to manipulate sections of track in order to get each of your six racecars to the finish line inside the time limit. Gets a lot harder as you go up in levels and more obstacles are added. Yes, it is a HotWheels game.

The Mystery of Castle Wildenburg

"King Anfortas currently owns this magic stone, schmooze him, take him surprise, how ever you will get it, but bring me this stone! As award I promise you my daughter and a place on the crown!" -- The Mystery of Castle Wildenburg, a slightly goofily-translated game that combines point-&-click with classic text adventure gameplay, and photos of the lovely German countryside. Read the "Prehistory," mouseover everything, save often (though you lose your accumulated points on loading a saved game), and be careful not to die of thirst.

Absolut Search

Where's Waldo the Vodka? Absolut Search: You have two minutes to find 82 vodka bottles in this crowded little illustration of a slice o' New York life. (Flash; and, of course, preceded by an age-verification page. Don't even think about lying, you naughty kids.)

Farm Hustle

Fsaturday Flash Fun: Farm Hustle. Line up the cutesy critters in rows or columns of three or more; speed up the process with bombs. Advance levels by turning every square white.

Which Way Adventure

Which Way Adventure, a weird-ass choose-your-own-adventure-type "game" with several different endings and some manticores. A few scenes are not safe for work. The other game on the site, Hunter of Vampires, is completely different in that it's cute, it appears to have a point, and it has a gizmo to toggle the sound off. (Both in Flash.)

Itchana Tchones

Itchana Tchones resembles-but-is-legally-distinct-from a certain beloved adventurer whom you may remember from a certain series of copyrighted movies. The first few games in which he stars are in French (and a little on the primitive side), but the gameplay is simple enough: Arrow keys to move, jump, and duck, spacebar to attack with the whip. The latest game in the series, Alien Wars, can be played in English. Lovely squishy little blood spurts, among other things, when death ensues. (Flash.)

Domino Pressure

If the high scores are to be believed, there are at least 400 (random) levels in Domino Pressure. The object: Figure out which domino is the one which, when tipped, will knock over all the other dominoes before squishing the tomato. For every domino you leave standing, you lose precious seconds to complete the next level. The secret seems to be to work your way backwards from the tomato; you can skip up to three levels.

Escape To Obion

More point-n-click Flash puzzles, this time in a series: Escape to Obion, episodes one, two, three, and four.

Inspector Wombat

Inspector Wombat, a point-and-click Flash puzzle game somewhat clumsily translated from the German. Inspector Wombat has a seemingly-bottomless sack in which to store all the random crap he picks up, like banana peels, his lady friend's stereo system (dude, she's standing right there. Ever try asking?), and tasty foodstuffs somebody left in the street. Your object is twofold: Find and apprehend the kooky blackmailer who's messing with the museum director, and fix the museum's paintings which have mysteriously gone all wonky (hint: it's because of evil, unhappy bacteria).

Bouncin' Bop

Bouncin' Bop, episodes one, two, three, four, and five. Cute little Flash game in which you control Bop, a happy smilin' rubber ball that ever bounces. Collect coins and don't touch the monsters, lest Bop join the Choir Invisible.

Flea Circus!

Flea Circus! It's just like Lemmings! Only tinier! And faster! And you can only make three moves: Block, ramp, and other ramp! (java)

"Under every forest there is a lawn."

McDonald's: The Videogame. A scathing critique of lousy corporate and environmental practices, or an entertainingly complex little game about the fast food industry? A little from column A, a little from column B. Torch diseased cows with the flamethrower, corrupt politicians and environmentalists, plant genetically modified soy in what used to be the rain forests of South America, force your employees to smile all the livelong day, and try not to bankrupt the company. Be sure to read the tutorial first. (Flash.)

Attic Escape

Attic Escape is another little "escape the locked room" Flash game along the lines of Crimson Room, Viridian Room, White Chamber, The Doors, and MOTAS. Also by the creator of Attic Escape are Nightmare Escape and, er, Cannibal Escape (which is worth clicking for the lovely, cello-heavy strings music if nothing else). Click everywhere in Attic Escape; important items are hidden behind, above, and under everything.

Ninja-Man

Your clan was annihilated, now you're out for revenge. You are Ninjaman. Pretty awesome little 2D side-scrolling Flash game; the trailer (.mov) gives you an idea of the gameplay. Oh, and you can customize the keyboard controls in "Options." Possibly the best part is watching your enemies impale their own idiotic selves on spiky traps.

Kol-Belov

It takes a long time to load, but Kol-Belov's "PU's_tota" is just so creepy and bizarre and awesome with really cool music. The artist is obviously deeply weird, also highlighted in the series of shorts, "Self-Destructing Organisms." There's also a game. These are Flash animations. Nearly all of them contain a modest amount of cartoon violence/gore; may not be safe for work. Also, the guy really loves his industrial music.

The Punny Adventures of Nick Bounty

A Case of the Crabs, and its sequel, The Goat in the Grey Fedora, are a couple of point-and-click black-and-white Flash games that parody the old Sam Spade-type noir films. You are Nick Bounty, private detective, and it's up to you to solve the mysteries of the counterfeit crabs and the miniature goat statue, respectively. Very, very jokey; guaranteed to induce eyerolling. Look at everything, talk to everyone, and pick up everything that's not nailed down. Hints are available, but they're crammed with jokes too.

The Flowering Nose in Slugland

The Flowering Nose in Slugland adventure game. As a goblin with a flower for a nose, your ultimate goal is to find the lost sprout. Defeat enemies by throwing flowers at them; power up with hearts; teleport from level to level with such esoteric trinkets as donuts and cherries. (Java.)

The Four Rooms of Kharon

"Someone messed it up bad. The world went to pieces. It was dog eat dog and everyone for himself. Along came an unlikely hero. You....The future can be saved. The knowledge is inside the Four Rooms of Kharon." From the info page: "Kharon 4a is an online adventure game dealing with biotech issues. The makers of the game have worked closely with the Norwegian Biotechnology Advisory Board during the creative process - to ensure the scientific validity of the game content. So, having played Kharon 4a, you will be left with not only an interesting and entertaining online experience, but you will also be familiar with the most imporant aspects of bio technology." They also warn that it's "the hardest Flash game ever made" and that you'll probably give up after five minutes.

Bill the Demon

"History is filled with legends of Demons: evil creatures with dark powers and horrifying strength. There is Astaroth, who turns invisible; Beelzebub, master of flies and all Earthly diseases; Mephistopheles, Prince of Deceit; Asmodeus, Lord of Corruption; and Leviathan, great monster of the Deep. You are Bill." It's a Flash game.

C4 Hamster Challenge

If you liked those Yeti vs. penguin games, you might enjoy the C4 Hamster Challenge. You are Death Jr. (of PlayStation fame). You have a hamster. The hamster is strapped with C4. If you release the hamster with just the proper strength and speed, and detonate the hamster at just the right spot, you can really send that demon's head flying. (Flash.)

Kafkamesto

"You awaken from an uneasy dream. You are in a small, bare apartment. You are alone. You have no idea how you got there. You don’t even know who you are." Fans of Franz Kafka may appreciate Kafkamesto, a bleak and bizarre point-and-click Flash game.

More Goldbergian Flash

Things Came Up To My Brain...Museum? A little Flash game, from the same Samorostian/Goldbergian mind that brought us Find The Treasure. Warning: There doesn't appear to be any way to toggle the sound off.

Word Games

Fsaturday Flash Fun: CryptoQuote. Other word games featured at East of the Web are the Tetris-like PopWord (and its multiplayer companion [beginner and advanced, respectively]), the MasterMind-like CodeWord, and the vaguely Scrabble-ish 8 Letters in Search of a Word.

More Flash Friday

More Flash Friday. Dynasty Street is an awesomely intricate, gory, stick-figure beat-'em-up. Make sure to practice your moves in the dojo before you play. For mayhem that's a little more low-key, immerse yourself in the world of Skull Kid and his chainsaw. If you're not in the mood for blood & guts, just go with good old Battleship. FlashPlayer.com features many, many Flash games with which to while away the hours.

Not safe for work: Shoot Your Wad (warning: Flash, porno music, and John Holmes). "You are Johnny Wadd, the hottest private eye/cocksman in America.
