The Republicans make character assassination an art form.
Several people have linked to this already on their sites and I haven't had a chance to update my own yet, but Phil Agre's latest piece about Republican dirty tricks is a must-read. "The past ten days will go down as a turning point in American history. This is what it's like when the far right is taking over your country: the people support Al Gore's policies, but the polls are shifting toward George W. Bush because the media is filled with false attacks on Al Gore's character."
The Internet caused the Columbine massacre,
according to George W. Bush in Wednesday night's presidential debate. Maybe Al Gore shouldn't have been so quick to claim that he took the initiative in creating the Internet
Monkeyfist has some alternate questions
for the two candidates.
George W. Bush "suspended" from Texas Air National Guard.
He repeatedly says he was discharged "honorably", but some government documents seem to say otherwise
"The vice president says he would rather protect this refuge than gain the energy, but this is a false choice ..."
~G.W. Bush (on Gore's plan to keep the protected status of Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, while Bush plans to open up parts of the protected land to oil prospecters.)
WORLD EXCLUSIVE: GORE MOLE SUSPECTED TO HAVE INFILTRATED BUSH CAMPAIGN; FBI MOVES IN; DEBATE PREP TAPE EXPOSED BREACH
This could be big. I remember when I read about the whole Moncia dress incident on the Drudge Report and look what happened... I hope to god it is not true, I couldn't stand Bush winning because of something like this.
PS, don't yell at me for the caps, it's Drudge. What do you expect?
Bush: 342 / Gore: 224
Bush leads Gore in the number of jokes made about him on late night talk shows.
Reminder: Al Gore is on Oprah today, Bush next Tuesday.
can you tell i work at home? :) an interesting chance to see the candidates speak, though probably very scripted.
Does GW's great Texas education system really work?
Teachers say Texas has given up on normal school subjects in favor of test taking strategy in order to produce nice round numbers for politicians. Kids spend the school year preparing day and night for massively hyped state wide tests instead of actually learning. Is this any way to educate our children?
Yo dawg, peep Bush, he be up and on that whitecrib thang.
Believe it Yo. My pager goin off when I saw this word scribble...
Bush (shaking his head mournfully): "Dude, dude. You must be loaded, Holmes. You're cut off on the bong, ace. Your lameness is of a sameness. If every time you're sippin' on a 40 you start quoting Grouchy Marx, my man, you can't be hanging at Epsilon House. Major league bummer!"
Maybe Dubya needs a pinch-hitter
to take his place opposite Gore at the debates planned by the Commission on Presidential Debates.
This may be too good to be true. Drudge says there's a home video
of a possibly drunk GW Bush acting the smartass.
Last week, Bush was up by 16 points
. Today, Gore is up
. Who are all of these “swing” voters that can't make
up their minds in the face of clear differences
between the candidates?
Craig Kilborn calls for the assassination of George W. Bush on national television.
"Just a little joke, of course. huh huh huh." Yeah, sure, maybe, though not at all funny, and also wildly illegal. CBS and Worldwide Pants have been forced to apologize, and the Secret Service has an active investigation. It should be noted, though, that this aired last Friday, and CBS and Worldwide Pants said and did nothing until this got talked about on a New York radio show yesterday. Why do I get the feeling that if, say, Regis got on his show and made the exact same "joke" about Al Gore, he'd be fired before 10:30 am and be blackballed for the rest of his life?
Well here's why Ralph is running.
Do the other guys have anything this succinct and clear-cut? I can't find on the 'Net any page, nor have I heard in any of their speeches, where Bush or Gore come straight out and state exactly why they're running.
Time looks at Dubya's Veep choice.
Here's what's interesting:
"In fact, by (the time of Sen. John Danforth's interview) Bush not only knew he wanted Cheney to be his Vice President; he also knew Cheney would say yes. But that was information that neither man shared with Danforth. He and 10 other would-be running mates had laid themselves bare before Cheney and his vetting team."
Why would Bush continue to put people through an exhaustive
screening process after he already made up his mind... Unless he was digging for dirt on rivals?
J. Edgar Hoover lives.
Former Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney
will be George W. Bush's running mate.
Compassionate Conservatives are Hate Males
It has been a strange day today. I got a letter in the mail from a nearby church asking me to change my religion because said religion was supporting homosexuals. You know what, I'm thinking of going to their service on Sunday and letting them know what I think of their Hate mail they sent me. Deeply offensive.
Then I find out that a Shrub (George W. Bush) does not support seperation of Church and State. And infact wants to have state 'sponsored' 'official' religions!
Personally I am getting a little sick and tired of intollerance. Furthermore, I am gettign sick of Gerorge W. Bush. The man makes my skin crawl. Please, someone offer me a job outside of Texas...
george bush, beating around the bush.
good news: he's finally said something about GLBT equality issues. bad news: it ain't much. if he wins, i'm ditching my citizenship.
What will George do?
Gary Graham is on death row and would be president Bush has a decision to make. Only one of six witnesses has identified Graham as the killer and four witnesses say Graham was elsewhere when the crime took place. I'm not saying the death penalty is wrong, but isn't it the greatest injustice of all to be executed for a crime you didn't commit.
Americans believe in a recession
within the next four years.
But of course. It's only natural after the most prolonged economic expansion in history. So don't go blaming the next administration when it finally happens.
If Gore is president, then people will say: "12 years of democrats is enough!", but if Bush is in charge, then the complain will go "You see? republicans don't have a clue".
Bush and Gore won their respective Iowa primaries.
Excuse while I let out an enormous yawn. I was talking about Bill Bradley to a friend
the other day, and he thought I was a crackpot. So I dug up the old Select Smart URL
, and made him fill out the form. Given his stance on issues, Bill Bradley came up as his first choice too. He went nuts, and said instead of punch cards with names in the voting booth, we should answer questions like the Select Smart site
, and submit a vote for the candidate that most matches our stances on issues. Instead of pointless political advertising, candidates' positions on real issues would determine who would vote for them. Wouldn't that be great?
