Scott McClellan wrote a book. The former Press Secretary admits some of his answers to White House Press Corps questions were badly misguided. One section of his book accuses George W. Bush of deluding himself about his alleged cocaine use. Of course, part of the blame for the entire mess should fall on the liberal media for being "too easy on the administration during the run-up to the war...".

Craig ("Who?") Ferguson at the White House Correspondents Dinner: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. (it's a Three-Link YouTube Post!) Not as pointed as Colbert but lots of funny and acouple moments of OMG. SOME JOKE SPOILERS WITHIN... Some clunkers and eye-rolling moments (especially in Part 2), but many highlights: Part 1: Addressing EVERYONE in attendence, his presence being "...another case of immigrants taking jobs that Americans don't want", "cheeky comedy racist Don Imus cussed in front of the first lady... always wait until she cusses first", what he did to recently become an American citizen leading up to "INS Pop Quiz", a rambling bit on how Glasgow faced Al Queda, "I do love America and L.A. is a short commute to America", "Belgium... the Canada of France", "Canada...the apartment ABOVE the party... We weren't invited... Mexico wasn't invited and THEY came" and personally killing "the myth of Liberal Media Bias". Part 2: Many journalists told him to"speak truth to power... I don't see it that way... that's YOUR job" (ZING!), his sarcastic salute to the way journalists did their jobs the last 8 years (yes, he went there), and the New York Times did not attend because the event "undercuts the credibility of the press... I thought Jayson Blair and Judy Miller took care of that." Mostly lame stuff from 4:00 to 9:30 (Donald Rumsfeld clip?), but then he turns to face Bush for a sarcastic reference to "Deal or No Deal", and then IMO the perfect moment (duplicated at the beginning of Part 3). Part 3: Not funny but his message to all assembled: "Please never ever ever... stop fighting with each other"... after that, nothing but post-speech crowd noise...

In all its 55 year history, MAD magazine has been known much more for media satire than political satire... anything political was often camouflaged as a movie or TV parody and generally less partisan than most. (How can you take their politics seriously when they offered Alfred E. Neuman for President?) Another thing about MAD is how rarely it goes outside its "Usual Cast of Idiots" for content. Well, things have changed, as the MAD editors used 10 Pulitzer Prize Winning Op/Ed Cartoonists to illustrate the incendiarilly-titled “Why George W. Bush Is in Favor of Global Warming”. The usually web-shy MAD even allowed the New York Times to put most of the piece online in a slideshow. Self-derail: While looking for past political content from MAD online, I uncovered this cover from 1974 that would probably be controversial today.

A coworker hipped me to this, and I found it quite astonishing that I'd heard nothing about it.

It's a great irony that, while the United States has probably never been less popular among Canadians than in the era of George W Bush, plans to integrate Canada more deeply into the US have been proceeding at a brisk clip. The threat of Canada being absorbed into the US has traditionally provoked strong reactions here, as the pitched electoral battles over the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in the 1980s and '90s attest. But the issue seems to have largely disappeared in recent years, leaving the impression that the push for deeper integration has stopped or that Canadians no longer care about it. Neither is true.

It seems that a goodly number of politically active groups are aware, however, and are organizing protests. How effective will those protests be when they won't be able to get within several kilometers of the site? Has anyone got any thoughts about this? How will they fit 52 stars on the Star-Spangled Banner? Should I don my tinfoil hat? Is the protest even relevant, given that most of the news reports I can find are calling it a fait accompli?
