Many boxes are donated, thanks in part to the 1996 Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Act that shields businesses from liability for food donations. Still, an estimated 40% of food is thrown out (pdf) in the U.S.

Boycott Girl Scout cookies says a young Girl Scout due to Girl Scouts accepting transgender scouts and not discriminating against them. Troops in LA have disbanded in protest of the GSUSA policy of inclusion. Girl Scout cookie sales provide a large portion of the GSUSA funds. Honest Girl Scouts is the site behind this video.

The Boy Scouts have garnered a lot of controversy for refusing to accept gay and atheist scouts. Meanwhile, the Girl Scouts have no official stance on sexuality, and while they officially pledge to "serve God," they have become more flexible on the policy. In addition, a Girl Scout council had endorsed Planned Parenthood as a source for information on sex education. These policies have earned the ire of Republican House Representative candidate Hans Zeiger, who declared the organization a "a pro-abortion, feminist training corps," and that "perhaps it will be time to look for our cookies elsewhere" in an online editorial. He has pulled down most of his writings, but most of them have been cached by Google.

ASCAP loves your cookies, but business is business. You may remember, back in 1996, when ASCAP cracked down on The Girl Scouts for singing popular campfire songs and not paying copyright fees. Today, MCPS-PRS - UK's performance rights organization - has sued a popular car repair firm because its employees listen to radio at the work too loudly, and that it therefore constitutes a public performance. The Girl Scout Cookie Equivalency Chart sorts out the products from the official suppliers - ABC Bakers and Little Brownie Bakers. gimonca says they'll be out sometime soon. I'll take two boxes of each please. Oh! no you don't... you're not in the USA.

I hope ASCAP is proud. I don't know about you, but I'll be sure to notify all Girl Scouts I know, that singing copyrighted material (you know like "Happy Birthday and "God Bless America") at camp might just land there camp directors behind bars.

Screw cookie sales! Girlscouts try a new funding program. Plans for a father-daughter "pajama party" dance at which dads and their teen and pre-teen daughters would wear only nightclothes proved too naughty for top Girl Scouts officials, who Friday ordered participants to wear sweat suits instead.
