Tiny paintings of gnomes have been turning up in the Oakland neighborhoods surrounding Lake Merritt. Some were attached to Pacific Gas & Electric power poles and were in danger of being removed, but the utility has responded to public outcry by granting the gnomes a reprieve. Neighbors and the popular Children's Fairyland are supporting keeping the gnomes around.

The fate of 100 or so confiscated gnomes held at the Gillette Police Department is still unknown. Three teenage girls confessed to the crime, but this may extend past state lines... The auction, which sparked the interest of 'gnome enthusiasts' all over the country, also caught the attention of the Arvada, CO police department which has asked to halt the investigation. Coincidental?. Perhaps the young ladies may have a good line of defense....

"For years people laughed at me. But my dream reoccured so often that I was sure that one day the yellow gnomes would visit our planet with a very special message for us. Now I am not alone anymore." These yellow gnomes have apparently appeared all over NW Europe. Today a fresh batch was discovered in Abcoude, Netherlands (in Dutch). And yes, of course there is a forum. Art or crazy?
