Now married and father to two, Kevin Berthia's life has changed dramatically in the 8 years since he climbed over the railing of the Golden Gate Bridge to take his own life. He probably would not have had that opportunity had it not been for the dedication of California Highway Patrolman Kevin Briggs, "The Guardian of the Golden Gate Bridge
". Following the overwhelming response to the short documentary on Briggs' efforts to reach out--sometimes literally--to would-be jumpers, he got the opportunity to meet
the young man whose life he saved in 2005. [more inside]

A Survivor's Story
"All of a sudden, hands were grabbing him, hauling him up, laying him on a board. A man in uniform -- it was the Coast Guard that rescued him -- was asking questions.
'What did you do?'
'I jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge.' 'Why?'
'I wanted to kill myself.' " Fourth in a seven-part series
on Golden Gate Bridge suicides. A follow-up to this post

This metafilter thread
about the Golden Bridge suicide documentary stayed in my mind for weeks after I read it. It was haunting.
Yesterday the Langara Journalism review
from Vancouver published a very interesting article
about responsible coverage of suicide in the media, notably after a mediatic chaos ensuing the suicidal attempts of two persons wanting to jump off one of Vancouver's bridges last fall.
An excellent read for anyone tired of sensationalist horror stories, the consequences they can trigger, and the lack of taste they are treated with.

Protester dies senseless death.
In a demonstration of the inefficacy of the recent protests, a protester falls to his death while apparently trying to hang an anti-war banner from the Golden Gate Bridge, barely a few hours before hostilities begin in Iraq.
