In honor of his 75th birthday, Michael Grbich tap danced across the Golden Gate Bridge followed by an entourage of confetti-tossing grandchildren, neighbors and a friend with an iPod boom box. He's also a local artist and survivor of the Oakland Hills Fire.

A man in uniform -- it was the Coast Guard that rescued him -- was asking questions.
'What did you do?' 'I jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge.' 'Why?' 'I wanted to kill myself.' " Fourth in a seven-part series on Golden Gate Bridge suicides.
Don't push me cos I'm close to the edge

This metafilter thread about the Golden Bridge suicide documentary stayed in my mind for weeks after I read it. It was haunting.
Yesterday the Langara Journalism review from Vancouver published a very interesting article about responsible coverage of suicide in the media, notably after a mediatic chaos ensuing the suicidal attempts of two persons wanting to jump off one of Vancouver's bridges last fall.
An excellent read for anyone tired of sensationalist horror stories, the consequences they can trigger, and the lack of taste they are treated with.

Protester dies senseless death.

Protester dies senseless death. In a demonstration of the inefficacy of the recent protests, a protester falls to his death while apparently trying to hang an anti-war banner from the Golden Gate Bridge, barely a few hours before hostilities begin in Iraq.

Engineering students hang VW Beetle from Golden Gate Bridge -- I vaguely remember hearing about some various CalTech annual pranks over the years - but this one took some effort.

So much for non-chalantly transporting a rusty Beetle across the border anymore...
