WhoTubes?

Google has been ordered to turn over all of its electronic records of the videos watched by users on YouTube to Viacom. The 12 terabytes of data include records of every video watched by every user, including the user's login name (if any) and IP address. Google had complained that the disclosure would invade user's privacy, but this argument was blunted somewhat by Google's earlier statement that IP Addresses are not, in and of themselves, personally identifying information. Google was also ordered to turn over certain other information, including its video classification database schema, but was not ordered to turn over information regarding videos marked as private, its source code, or its advertising database schema.

Great new way to prevent liability or hurdle to fair use?

Google has announced plans to implement a filter for copyrighted works on youTube. They have been receiving criticism from all sides. Content owners would prefer an industry wide approach to the problem.

The EFF feels the filter would create a hurdle to fair use since it could block legitimate content. The EFF has compiled what they consider a test suite of content that is a legitimate fair use but that could be blocked by the content filter. Some of those videos are great!

Websites that changed the world? This Observer piece lists fifteen websites that aught to be considered the best of the web. It's a bold claim and although the potted histories are excellent, I'm wondering the extent to which it mostly includes website that have broken the public recognition barrier in the uk rather than changing the world. How many are simply pioneers in their field? Where for example is flickr?
