Ballpark Blues. To make way for a new stadium and redevelopment, DC has been clearing out the underground bar and club scene in the
Navy Yard area of southeast Washington. The first victim was
Tracks, one of DC's first gay clubs and the epicenter of the nascent Goth scene in DC--closed in 1999 to make way for an office building. Now the
rest of the neighborhood's gay clubs are being demolished to make way for the new stadium. And finally,
Nation, home of
Cubik(formerly Buzz),
Velvet and
Alchemy is closing to make way for another new office complex. DC nightlife will never be the same again.

Art Frahm gets an update. Ever wanted to see Art Frahm's
vintage pinups modernized? With some of those outrageous "Goth Girls" as models? Your wait is over! Now you can see for yourself what happens when those girls in their fishnet stockings and those scandalous dresses have their knickers accidentally fall down to their ankles. (No nudity.)

A: Yes, it's a VW bug." --

Morbid Outlook is a polished, eclectic Goth magazine with a killer design and content to die for. With hundreds of articles and images in the categories of Art, Music, Fashion, Lifestyle, Fiction and Nonfiction, this is one of the very best online zines I've seen yet. Go to any feature, and you will find a list of related-interest articles accompanying the story, and, usually, a listing of online resources or suggestions for reading as well.

The long wait is nearly over; tonight, all will be revealed. Who will be
Miss Gothic Massachusetts 2003?
Come watch as they fasten their fingers to their foreheads with a piece of Victorian silk so as not to strain the gossamer skin on their delicate digits of doom.

The New Porn? The trend toward music subculture-specific porn sites that began with the launch of
raverporn.net more than two years ago has continued with sites like
suicidegirls.com (featuring goth, punk, and raver girls) and
supercult.com (featuring mod and indie rock chicks). SuicideGirls has been
discussed extensively on MetaTalk. What do you think about these sites? Are they porn or erotica? Are the young (mostly male) entrepreneurs who have started these sites making porn less degrading (and/or more appealing) to women OR are they just a new generation of Hugh Hefners?

What if Martha Stewart was a goth? As it turns out, she'd just shy away from
elegant eggshell blues and seafoam greens in favor of
black and burgundy. Other than that she'd be pretty much the same. It's not too late to recycle your house in time for Samhain. A frivolous, yet convincing argument for a strange but useful marriage of ideas. Well, if you're into this sort of thing, of course.

Not that we need to give Mattel any more press, but I found
gothic Barbie and Ken, Addams gig or no, to be très étrange. (Oh Tish! That's French! You know that drives me to further acts of kitschy assimilation!)
