Hamm's art instruction books, including Cartooning the Head and Figure
, have been widely influential among a generation of illustrators, Simpson's creator Matt Groening
among them. Hamm began his cartooning career in the late 1930s and founded "The Jack Hamm Show," one of the first television art programs, which aired in the Dallas, Houston and Waco, Texas, TV markets.
