Aeron-chair codesigner Bill Stumpf dies

Bill Stumpf, Co-Designer of the Aeron Chair, Passes Away at 70 With Don Chadwick, Bill Stumpf designed the Aeron, the first “alternative” office-chair design to become a household name. Stumpf died 30 August 2006 (linked news release is from 5 September)

The History of the Cubicle

Mommy, where do cubicles come from? Ever watch old movies, and feel a deep pang of resentment and envy at the open, spacious offices depicted therein? What ever happened to the human workplace? The ugly truth is finally revealed: it's all Herman Miller's fault. The introduction of their Action Office system in the late 1950s was largely responsible for the office cubicle as we know it today. While things are obviously not as bad as they could be, people could at least learn how to behave themselves in the modern cube-farm.

An Ode to the Aeron

An Ode to the Aeron -- Something good may come out of the dotcom collapse at last! As they all go belly up, having lavished lots of their venture capital on $2000 office chairs, will the rest of us finally be able to afford these marvels of office architecture, even if we do have to settle for them being used?
