Magic Hat Brewery is facing a ban in several Lexington, Kentucky establishments after a recent lawsuit against local business West Sixth Brewery. Many are dubious about the claims being made regarding copyright infringement. The Consumerist offers a visual guide to some of the potential similarities between the designs. West Sixth claims that they are experiencing corporate bullying and have asked the community to sign a petition and stop drinking Magic Hat, while Magic Hat argues that West Sixth has been less than straightforward with the public. West Sixth responds with further claims of corporate chicanery.

Columbia students stuff Nutella in their pants to the tune of $1,000s a week. (SLNYT) Last month one of Columbia’s undergraduate dining halls began serving Nutella every day, not just in crepes on weekends. The problem was that the Columbia students went through jars and jars of Nutella — at least 100 pounds a day. Apparently they were not just eating it in the dining hall. They were spiriting it away in soup containers and other receptacles, to be eaten later.

Simpsons series 24 episode 7 (The Day The Earth Stood Cool) aired last night, being the hipsterification of Springfield, complete with urban nomads, artisanal donuts, Homer's new attire, the Decemberists, Marge being confused by The Onion, and gentrification. The Eater PDX pontificated on the expansion of Portland restaurants. TV Fanatic liked it, Gothamist noted the New York Times elements, while Flavorwire decided it was possibly the worst episode ever.

Did "The Adventures of Pete & Pete" Invent the Hipster? This blog says so*. The AV Club loves it unironically. But so do the professional comedians at Splitsider and the sci-fi geeks at Tor.com. And the show definitely seems to have some influence on some young folk**. (Recently discussed as part of Rhaomi's epic Nickelodeon post)

American Apparel, the clothing company which became synonymous with the "hipster" look of the 2000s, is facing bankruptcy. American Apparel courted controversy with its pornography-inspired ads, which held a permanent place on the back of VICE Magazine, and the equally sexualised persona of its founder, Dov Charney. It was at one point the largest clothing manufacturer in the United States, due largely to the fact that other companies had shifted their production offshore. Now its auditor has resigned, citing "material weaknesses" in the firm's financial controls, and the firm's stock is facing delisting. Charney himself has recently disowned the hipster style his firm became synonymous with, and announced an intention to switch to making more conservatively styled clothing for an older market. Whether that's enough to save his company is uncertain.
