What is art, really? Is it dependent on context? Do you need an art history degree to appreciate it? Was Jackson Pollock an artist or a scam artist? Are Grand Tour portraits considered art merely because of their age? These questions have been objectively unanswerable -
until now. Through the power of the internet, and the experience of Hot or Not, we can measure the democratic answer to these questions.

The hypnotic beauty of the average face. When you average out peoples facial features, the result is strangely beautiful. Which is odd. This captivating website lets you play with
facial averaging and design your own people. You can upload your own face and nudge it towards the dark-eyed loveliness that we seem programmed to desire. There are also links to theories suggesting why average people, instead of being bland, are hot. Facial averaging has been discussed
before. More on facial beauty from
Germany and
St Andrews.

hotghettomess.com -- I found this by following links from an earlier post. I am posting it because it is full of content and wry commentary. Since it may need to be said, I am not posting this out of any prejudice.

Talking Heads. Not until I stumbled upon this site did I figure out what it was the the Internet was missing. I've wanted to have
Sanjay on my desktop for so long. And now that I have the ability to vote for which "journalist" I think is the hottest, I can finally feel as if I am participating in these news programs. That is Democracy, after all.

How old do I look? This is a fascinating project -- almost like an intellectual's HotOrNot, that plays with our perception and societal ideals of age and beauty. I was close to right only about half the time, otherwise I was waaaay off.

blog.hotornot.com. call it a sophomoric joke. but i'm betting everyone included in the beauty pageant is afraid of a low rating. the only thing about this i find surprising is that
neale hasn't done it already. (via

Am I Annoying or Not? I realize that the whole 'Am I X or Not' is
so 1999, but this is actually pretty entertaining. The amount of research is
astounding if you consider the massive
index that they maintain. As a side note, Jack Osbourne is sitting at
100% annoying.

Is this plagiarism or not? Have to profess an interest here: I write for this site sometimes. But when I see they've created yet another "Hot or Not" ripoff I begin to wonder... will this joke ever end?

Who loves ya baby AmIHotOrNot with a twist, humiliated by receiving a paltry 2.3 ? Could it be that ninety nine percent of the votes came from vegetarian midgets that smoke ? Wouldn't it be nice to know you are a solid 9.4 amongst the one percent of blonde Amazonian godess' ? Get detailed demographic info on the types of people voting for you :)

Am I Hot or Not?
Beware of this link. If you click on it you will be sucked in for hours. The idea, rate people's looks on a scale of 1 to 10. The people? Anyone who uploads their picture to the site, both men and women.
I have never found a site more habit forming in my life. Like Dack (who I got the link from) I skipped food, drink and missed my bus.
