The True Love Project — People are exhorted to "say cheese" for the camera so their faces will approximate a happy look. Other emotional states, such as love, are far more complex and not easily photographed. Love is intimate and deeply personal, and its expression may be hard to share in a staged setting. Hypnosis opens a pathway into the unconscious, the neurological realm of emotional memory. In TRUE LOVE a group of volunteers worked with a professional hypnotist to reach, in trance, a point where they were able to visualize the camera as a beloved person. The resulting images captured people who were actually in love with the camera.

Contrary to what you probably think you know about hypnosis, it can be done very quickly and can be used to convince someone to do something they normally wouldn't--like, say,
giving away their wallet, phone, and keys to a stranger (English mentalist
Derren Brown). What's happening here is known as a
handshake induction, a technique pioneered by American psychiatrist
Milton Erickson. There are
other methods of rapid induction hypnosis. These methods, along with techniques of verbal suggestion, are used by practitioners of
Neuro-linguistic programming, a field which some have associated with Mr. Brown's performances, though
he denies it. I wonder, though, how he manages to get a cashier at a dog track
to pay out on a losing ticket?

Picking Up Women 101, courtesy of the Internet. (
warning: Youtube linkfest) Author
Neil Strauss (The Game)
introduces us to the concept.
Celebrated PUA
Mystery (of VH1's '
The Pick Up Artist' fame) shows us
some of his
moves and
espouses. (Conan O'Brien makes
light of it all.) Self-described 'nerd' Ross Jeffries (who claims to be this inspiration for
this character) sells his line of
Speed Seduction using a hypnosis-based strategy called
NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) to get into girls' panties. You might want to check out a more straight-forward approach, highlighted by UK Channel 4's 'Speed School.' (parts
1 2 3 4 5).

Everybody loves Zombies. Everybody loves killing Zombies. Nobody wants to suddenly wake up surrounded by Zombies. Not when you thought you were just playing a
video game.

Mind Over Matter: South African Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy site. Bound by the code of conduct of the South African Association of Hypnotherapists
("1.17 Practitioners must not practice dentistry unless they hold an appropriate qualification. 1.18 Patients suffering from AIDS may be treated at the discretion of the practitioner"). Possibly associated with
these folks; I'm certainly inspired to put my subconscious in the glittery hands of
this guy.
P.S.: The female orgasm is 100% Purely Mental.

SBaGen is software (Windows, Mac and Linux) that generates binaural beats - interactions between sound waves that
mess with your brain, to induce sleep, relaxation, activity, and allegedly even hallucinogenic states. SBaGen relies on text-file presets (although it comes with dozens of files to experiment with) but if you want a "quick start", there's also the Windows-based
Brain Wave Generator.

It "...has no side effects, causes no allergic reactions, is not addictive" and patients can even be taught how to administer it to themselves, yet
hypnosis isn't used as widely as pain drugs, anitdepressants and pharmaceuticals. (More inside.)

This article concerning the power of suggestion will be even more fascinating than my post yesterday about the brand new Wilco album. Psychologists have presented a paper documenting the previously underestimated capacity of the brain to manufacture memories based on planted suggestions. Interestingly, one of the experiments seems to have been inspired by the infamous democRATS political ad (
discussed here) of the 2000 presidential campaign.

Relove As it describes itself, an "audio based trance induction" device to "re-experience past love". An extremely interesting and
hypnotic experience in which you find and examine a
memory. Unfortunately, it seems to get caught in a loop in the last stage, but what is usable is still quite intriguing. Heed the warning on the front page and use accordingly. Also, due to it's nature, not feasible for work or school. A quiet and focused few minutes is needed. [more...]
