Demâ– n

160 pages into his webcomic "Demon", Jason Shiga (previously on MetaFilter*) declares its intent - to "subvert the superhero genre", with a protagonist who is apparently quite immortal... which he doesn't realize until after a few suicide attempts (trigger warning: repetitive suicide including one later on that's rather obscene). But it's really much more complicated than that. And "superhero"? More like "supervillain". Just don't expect crazy costumes and other such tropes, we are doing some serious subverting. The story starts here. (Updated every weekday) [more inside]

Fleep

In Fleep, a 44-page comic strip by Jason Shiga, the protagonist is trapped within a telephone booth sealed in concrete. Can he escape using what few resources are available to him?

Jason Shiga

If you think about it, the book is a pretty wierd (but efficient) way of storing information. Instead of being laid out in a continuous linear fashion, information is broken into roughly equal sized chunks. Then 50-70 of these chunks are printed onto these moveable flaps which all pile on top of one another.
Xeric grant winner Jason Shiga makes amazing, hilarious comics. You can get them in print or read many of them online.
