When Smith writes long soliloquies, he doesn't do so from an attempt to ironically portray how Holden conceives relationships with juvenile sentimentality, but because he lacks the ability to give you insight into each character without having them wrenchingly declare themselves and their universe to you. A better writer gives you the details and lets you discover a human being from them, but here, each word is very important, and each one has meaning, because this is communication through vivisection. You open up the animal, and every working part matters.

After swearing off his (five-part) "Jersey Trilogy" forever with the release of
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back in 2001, Kevin Smith (already busy with
Fletch Won and
The Green Hornet has
announced that
View Askew is preparing a
Clerks sequel, entitled
Clerks 2: The Passion of the Clerks. The movie "is about what happens when that lazy, 20-something malaise lasts into your 30s."
Since many of us were among those the "lazy 20-somethings" that launched Smith's career, this raises a few questions, most of which
are inside. The simple one, though, is this:

Proving that he is the geekiest man in film, Kevin Smith relates the tale of how he
almost got to egg the house of Reese Witherspoon, and why he wanted to in the first place - a rather funny story. Would that all Hollywood ego-battles could be resolved in such a fashion.

Movie Poop Shoot started its web life last year as
an in-joke (warning: work-unsafe imagery) for
Kevin Smith's film Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, but it recently underwent a rather major overhaul. Now it's an all-encompassing pop-culture news and opinions site, focusing mostly on movies, but also touching on TV, video, music, comics and toys. The contributors who write the many weekly columns are knowledgeable and entertaining, and the site feels sort of like
Ain't It Cool News minus the atrocious design and grade-school level writing. Add to that some of the
funniest headlines I've seen in a while and The Porn Star Quote Of The Week and you've got a new daily visit for this geek.

McG to direct first Superman movie in 15 years. The now-discarded Tim Burton/Kevin Smith collaboration made more sense to me...seems that a less confident, more troubled Kal-el, living in a darker world, would take off the campy edge Superman stories often have, and draw modern audiences (especially today's teens). But surely McG (Charlie's Angels) and writer J.J. Abrams (Alias and Felicity) will bring us a smugly self-actualized Superman in a postmodern world full of kaleidoscopic action scenes. And that will never work as anything more than eye candy...will it?

"ooh, what a lovely tea party"... I know this link will attract a ton of "Kevin Smith is an overrated hack" posts, but I was surprised it wasn't here already. The second Internet Only trailer for "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back" is up, and the server load has calmed down to the point where it can actually be downloaded.
As could be expected, this will make Smith fans cheer and bounce up and down in their chairs, and Smith hatas shake their heads and look for the nearest web forum to post comments about their disgust.
Amusingly, the latter part of that paragraph is apparently a major plot point of the movie, and if you read today's "talk-backs" on
AICN you'll appreciate how much fun Smith is having with it. Can't wait to see the flick, and to add to the fun it comes out on my birthday. Nootch.

Just saw Dogma and I know the rest of the world saw it before me. I waited. All my friends said, "you got to see this movie Zach cuz the way you've talked about religion all your life this is IT!" And I thought that was pretty sour, that Hollywood could ever get my idea of religion right, but Kevin Smith's not Hollywood and I saw it and it was good. It's close. It doesn't quite take it to eleven though. What I find more interesting is seeing Kevin Smith's take on
other Hollywood projects. I feel for Kevin. He's like Daniel in the Lion's Den..
