Kennan Ward Nature-Wildlife Photography -- “Being a nature-wildlife photographer is a demanding job … but all the hardship is forgotten when I make eye-to-eye contact with a wild animal, or experience the moment when a window in the clouds opens up, highlighting a landscape … I feel honored to be able to bring the inspiring beauty of nature to others.” I first became aware of Kennan Ward through his third book, Denali: Reflections of a Naturalist. A photographer, videographer and adventurer-naturalist Kennan Ward has written several books about wilderness and wildlife. He has dedicated his life to capturing the rare forms of nature first on film, now digitally with stills and video. Ten years of work as a Search and Rescue Ranger for the National Park Service honed his wildlife skills, accelerated his evolution as a natural-light photographer and deepened his love for the outdoors. In 2000 Kennan received a prestigious honor from the BBC's Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. Kennan’s work has been featured in many national and international magazines, including Audubon, Alaska, BBC Wildlife, National Geographic, Backpacker, GreenPeace, NG Kids, Sierra, Natural History, Outdoor Photographer, Outside, and National Wildlife. In 2001 Kennan published a very special book bringing attention to the stunning natural world of the Alaskan Arctic - The Last Wilderness: Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Kennan has lobbied from Alaska to DC to educate law-makers and congress people about the vast, unspoiled wildernesses of ANWR. There are literally thousands of photographs on Kennan's web site. A few of my favorites include a humpback whale breach, the love of a mama polar bear, a grizzly bear taking a bath, and a surprise for the Denali tourists. Surreal photographic Foodscapes by photographer Carl Warner. Strawberry hot air balloons, towers of cheese, potato boulders, green pea boats on seas of salmon, spice roads, and sugar beaches populate these intricate and luscious scenes. More dishy foodscapes (the plate rainbow = ♥!) and other wonderful visual tricks at his Flash site in the "Fotographics" section (look for the fabulous forest of boots and the white cotton winter wonderland!). Note that the Foodscapes and other illusions are in the second section at his site (the orange box), which contains four folders. Flash. gah. An interview with Lebbeus Woods -- designer and illustrator of speculative futuristic landscapes and buildings. Woods just set up his own website, which has an amazing quantity of drawings, photographs, and text focusing on his lesser known projects [for those willing to deal with a frustrating flash interface and sound. It's better in IE than Firefox.] From his comments at a recent conference (transcript, summary with video) and the overview to his website, it appears he wants to start some conversations.

Revolution is a series of 24 hour high definition digital art works that record every movement, change of light, weather and mood that takes place at the chosen composition in a 24 hour period - one revolution of the planet. Artist Ben Whitehouse took digital videos of various landscapes that are 24 hours long and are viewed in real time. On this site are 3 minute edited clips created to show some of the transitions that take place within them. Included, among others, are North Bar Lake, Central Park and Lake Michigan.

Adored by the Balinese, Spies was the co-founder of the Pita Maha artists' cooperative, he shaped the development of contemporary Balinese art and established the West's image of Bali that still exists today. Vanishing America. While doing some research on the "neon graveyard" in Las Vegas, I ran into this site which seeks to "discover, procure, document and preserve through photographic media the architecture and cultural landscapes situated along the highways of the U.S." While I wish that the gallery had more entries, the links section is a real gem. How else would you find out about stuckonstuckeys.com or The grotto of the redemption?
