A few months ago there was a list of links to classic video game emulators posted.
Very recently, I'm pleased to report, those links all came true
. The Internet Archive bespoke upon aforementioned consoles, computers, and mileposts on our way to the tech utopia of today, (seriously, where's my flying car?) and they asked us to do something: Imagine every computer that ever existed, literally, in your browser
. And it was so.
I have absolutely no affiliation with jscott
, btw. Thought I should disclose that.

How much data can you shove through a fiber optic cable? Quite a lot, as it turns out
. Using the ITU standard 50 GHz dense wavelength division multiplexing
grid, not only can you easily do 80 x 10 Gbps channels in a single fiber pair, but recent advances in modulation technology mean that with QPSK, 4QAM or 16QAM modulation, 1/80th of a dark fiber pair can carry a 100 Gbps
signal in the optical space previously occupied by a single long distance 10 Gbps circuit.

- Is the color of future of your future neon pink? Is the language Japanese? Are the city's an eternal nighttime of airbrushed martini glasses, glossy red lips and consumer electronics? Do you jam with the console cowboys in cyberspace? Then this is the tumblr for you. [via mefi projects

Arduino + servos + laser + phosphorescent surface + Twitter = Fade Away 1
. A thoughtful art project about the "permanence" of the Internet.

Lasers 4, UAVs 0.
It's easier to hit things at the speed of light. Raytheon tests a naval anti-aircraft laser, and you can watch it go at the link.

is one of the world’s most serious health problems. No single approach has yet to fully conquer either the disease or the disease vector, the mosquito. The most common electronic means of killing mosquitoes, the “bug zapper” is not particularly effective
. Using lasers to kill mosquitoes has previously been thought of as completely ridiculous
. Now the concept is being taken seriously

is a fun little shareware game that I stumbled across today. It's one of those "bounce stuff off mirrors to light up stuff" puzzle games, but with nice graphics, and additional features like a level editor and such. Warning: windows only download, shareware fee to unlock many levels and features.

THIS is a light saber?!?
