On December 3rd, 2006 Canada's next Prime Minister will be decided by a few thousand
delegates at the Liberal party convention in Montreal
(join for ~$10). Don't believe me? In the last 110 years of
Liberal party history only one leader has failed to become Prime Minister. No fewer than
sixteen candidates met in Edmonton last week. On the surface the candidates are making nice.
Ignatieff: "None of us, none of us are going to run against each other. All of us are running against Stephen Harper's vision of Canada."
It is even said that Bob Rae and Ignatieff are
life long close friends. That didn't stop the Ignatieff campaign co-chair.
David Peterson: "[Rae's] got some terrible burdens to overcome. One is his record and one is his loyalty."
Emphasis mine, and <more inside>

"What are we to make of the fact that the Fearless Leader of the Free World, a man brave enough to challenge terrorists in 80 nations to worldwide war, requires a general anesthetic for a routine colonoscopy?"
Spectator magazine columnist David Steinberg
raises a stink. (Found on
Flutterby!)

Foreigners and Rulers, this is an issue that albeit being an old one keeps cropping up, here is her official
position.
I am interested in opinions of whether you think it is okay for a foreigner (born and raised to "adulthood") to become a political leader of another country. And is anyone aware of a similar situation in others parts of the world where this has either been considered or has occurred.

How can you tell if your boss is a psychopath? "They have traits similar to ideal leaders. You would expect an ideal leader to be narcissistic, self-centred, dominant, very assertive, maybe to the point of being aggressive. Those things can easily be mistaken for the aggression and bullying that a psychopath would demonstrate. The ability to get people to follow you is a leadership trait, but being charismatic to the point of manipulating people is a psychopathic trait. They can sometimes be confused."

Malasia's attitude to sodomy and politics is brought into graphic focus by this bizarre news story in which an ex leader of the country has been sentenced to nine years in prison for sodomy. His brother has been sentenced to six years and four lashes with a rattan cane. Human rights violations literally up the wazoo...
