Cool. Cooler. Awesome! Using Lego bricks as a medium to design chess sets seems absolutely logical to anybody that grew up playing with them. Fans have gone low-tech, the inevitable Star Wars, and a few more. Lego offers a virtual cowboys-and-indians version as well. [more inside]

Lego wrangler Lwelyk has put together a little blog featuring his video game Lego creations. Each piece is an exact recreation of the original 2D sprite artwork where one pixel equals one square Lego block. Aside from Mother Brain we also get Phanto, Mushroom Block, Flying Shy Guy, Tingle and tons of others. The Mother Brain is by far the most impressive but the Twinrova piece definitely gets an honorable mention. [more inside]

Andrew Lipson and Daniel Shiu build faithful, 3D versions of Escher prints using LEGOs: Relativity, Ascending and Descending, Waterfall, and Belvedere. (Only one of those four images required any photo manipulation to create its "Escher effect" -- can you tell which one, without scrolling down to see the descriptions on each page?) Other people's LEGO adventures: a playable harpsichord, the Golden Gate Bridge, and a portrait of Catwoman.

The Brickfactory. Hundreds of instruction booklets for LEGO kits, organized by year, theme, number and name. If you're like me, just seeing the covers of some of these old kits will make you teary-eyed. (#268, the 1979 Family Room kit did it for me.)

Bricklink: Random images of Lego creations Go to Brickshelf and hit the Random link. You never know what you might find: A Lego Steven Colbert, brandishing a lightsaber; a nifty AFV; a cool-looking Lego wargame from Hong Kong (alas, the rules aren't public); some great character designs; a nifty little satirical comic about saving the future by defeating the Rethuglicans in the past; some things that are just very cute; some that are kinda disturbing; nifty creatures; and of course some really interesting and cool-looking, beautifully-detailed starships (and some pretty nifty water-going ships, too). Really makes you want some bricks, doesn't it? (Previously.)

"You must have shot an awful lot of Legos sir." The Italian Job trailer, done in Legos. It's amateurish and it's YouTube, but it's only 50 seconds and it's really charming if you're a fan of the movie. There's a serialized version of the whole movie (part 1 and part 2). Part 2 is much better because it has the heist and the aftermath. Lorna, Big William and Camp Freddie are miscast, but otherwise it's pretty good.

From March 17 through June 30, 2002, The Jewish Museum in New York will present "Mirroring Evil: Nazi Imagery/Recent Art". This exhibition features art of several young artists including this Lego concentration camp.

a silly place... either someone has waaaaay to much time on their hands or this is the coolest thing i've seen for ages. For those of you who want more explanation think Monty Python but in Lego. it's a movie - so time taken to view this movie is depending on whether your connection to the interweb is butane or coal fired. I've searched the archives and not found this particuar link - but it is a few months old, so apologies to any who have seen it before. I've not been accused of anything for a while.
