In July 2011,
Uganda's Little League baseball team became
the first African team to qualify for the
Little League World Series, which was held in Williamsport, Pa., in August 2011. After beating the
the 22-time World League qualifying Arabian American Little League squad from Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, the Ugandan team
couldn't take part in the world series after their visas were denied (NYT; alt:
HuffPo), due to
concerns about birth certificate validity, but that's not the end of their story.
The Canadian team from Langley raised funds to travel to Uganda,
giving the Ugandan team the match they were denied.

Chelsea Baker throws like a girl. Of course, she is a 13 year old girl, so that is to be expected. She is a pitcher that went 12-0 with 2 perfect games in the Plant City FL Little League this season. She hasn't been tagged with a loss in 4 years. Her secret is the knuckleball that was taught to her by a former coach, retired MLB pitcher
Joe Niekro.

No $250 million dollar crybabies here. The Little League World Series has been much more engaging than the pro game to me - mostly because the kids are there to
play baseball as opposed to the ego and salaries that permeate MLB. (the broadcast, on the other hand, is the usual commercial b.s. with things like the "Bubblicious Lineup")

A 12-year-old Little Leaguer
has pitched a perfect game -- 18 straight strikeouts, the greatest individual achievement in baseball. And his parents missed the game! But they did take him out for ice cream later. Any Little League vets (or current players) here?
