DJ Greg Wilson has photos of the Haçienda DJ Booth (no, not the one you're thinking of). DJ Hewan Clarke who played every night for the first four years talks about what it was like in the early days of the Haçienda: What I used to do when I was playing the records… I always had to go out, run onto the stage, stand in the middle of the stage and listen to how it sounded in the club, went back in and readjust it on the mixer and I was constantly doing that because there was no feedback from what was going on outside, you just had to look through that gap. The Haçienda was a Manchester nightclub essentially financed by Factory Records band New Order. Before it birthed the Madchester scene, the dj played in one of the worst dj setups ever conceived.

Towards the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s the Madchester sound swept the UK. Spearheaded by The Stone Roses and the Happy Mondays Manchester became the dominant force in English music. One notable exception to this Northern domination were the boys from London's Camden Town known as Flowered Up. Started in 1989 by Liam Maher and his brother Joe, they never really achieved any mainstream success, being seen largely as a London attempt to copy the Mondays, even down to having a musically superfluous dancer à la Bez, the large-plastic-flower-wearing Barry Mooncult. They only released a handful of singles and had an early success with It's On but in 1992 they released the 13-minute long Weekender. Both a celebration and criticism of early 90s drug and club culture the video (part 1, part 2) perfectly captures the ups and downs of a night out at the time. The band split shortly after releasing Weekender and in 2009 Liam Maher died of a heroin overdose, aged 41.

The Stone Roses are set to reform. It's almost 20 years since they released their extremely fine album creatively titled The Stone Roses. The band that was a big part of the Madchester movement have been bumping into each other at Manchester United games and no doubt seeing the money that the footballers are making decided it was time to regroup. The rumours are not certain, but some say it is 75 percent likely and media reports everywhere indicates it is probably happening. What's next, a guru Josh remix? Oh, Got one
