Senator's aide admits to writing "Schiavo Memo". Hoping for another "memogate" story, bloggers have been pushing accusations for the last few weeks that the highly-criticized GOP memo indicating the "political advantage" of the Terri Schiavo situation was a forgery or "dirty tricks" from Democrats. Today, the legal counsel to Florida Sen. Mel Martinez admitted to writing and distributing the memo (and promptly resigned.) Many bloggers who pushed the accusation are, shall we say, not exactly jumping at the opportunity to print mea culpas. Considering the growing debate about bloggers being treated as journalistic equals, what obligations does the blogosphere have to simply admit it was completely wrong on a story?

Liberal Media. Yep.

Ministry of Propaganda. Sinclair Broadcast Group, who last made headlines by refusing to air Nightline's reading of Americans killed in the Iraqi war because it was "contrary to public interest", have decided that Washington Times reporter Carlton Sherwood's anti-Kerry documentary "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal" is so vital to public interest that they are forcing every single one of their 62 station affiliates, 14 of which are in swing states, to preempt their primetime programming and air it less than two weeks before the election. Network sources claimed that following the airing, a "panel discussion" will be held, to which Kerry is invited, thus fulfilling SBG's commitment to fairness.

War is hell. Call my agent.

The CBS News American Idol Power Hour. Viacom, owner of networks CBS and MTV among many others, is aggresively pushing lucrative bribes offers for Private Jessica Lynch to get her on CBS News, including the possibility of her own video-hosting program on MTV and special editions of TRL. Corporate consolidation the way it is, are we in an era where synergy allows news-media-owning companies to offer not just material profit but flat-out media iconization in exchange for a good story? To put it another way: have we gone beyond using the news to promote entertainment owned by the same company to using entertainment as the currency to flat-out buy the news?
