Meetup Alliance - Meetup.com, the social networking site, probably best known for becoming a driving factor in Howard Dean's presidential campaign, has created the Meetup Alliance offshoot site, which allows local groups (whether organized through other networking sites or just locally) to link up and create global "alliances."

The First Democratic Debates were last night, but you wouldn't know it from the media's coverage. Barely a story on CNN. Howard Dean stole the night, with over a hundred screaming supporters outside the debates. The only person there with supporters was the blogging Presidential Candidate. There were students there from U.C. Berkley, Washinton, Georgia, North Carolina, and Kentucky. All thanks to the power of blogspot, and meetup. Whether or not Dean gets the nomination, this will be a campaign for the history books. They'll be on c-span all day today.

Howard Dean: You know he's the blogging Presidential candidate but did you know that he's also the Meetup candidate? Over ten thousand people met yesterday in coffee houses across the country to discuss this candidate's election possibility. Are we witnessing the first true Internet candidate here? Grass roots/netroots, something interesting is happening with this candidate. He's tied with Kerry in New Hampshire.

Tomorrow is a big day for Irish blogging (yeah, right). Vincent,
Helena, Michael,
Peter, Vincent
and myself are all meeting for a drink.
Should be good. There will be no pictures as seems to be Blogger-meet ritual.
Maybe one or two, but don't count on it.

First BlogBowl Get-Together In the interest of putting more names to faces, David Wertheimer, Brigitte Eaton, and I have quickly organized a bowling get-together for people in or near New York. If you want to see Cam in his bowling shirt, you gotta RSVP and come on by tomorrow night for some drinks and good, old-fashioned bowling fun.

Strangers When We Meet There are no fewer than a dozen bloggeurs in Toronto, and four of us got together f2f on Saturday the 29th, experiencing a climate change from summer to autumn in the space of three hours. Always slightly alien to meet online friends in person, but it worked well. (Subject line is a Smithereens quote for which I can find no online lyrics – good copyright policing, that. "Please don't look my way when you see me on the street. We will still be strangers when we meet." Not anymore, bien entendu.)
