Gregor MacGregor the Cacique of Poyais

In 1820 Gregor MacGregor, chieftain of the Central American principality of Poyais arrived in London and explained his problem: his principality had a fine climate, friendly natives, and a democratic government, but it needed investors and settlers to help develop it and exploit its abundant natural resources. To this end his government was to issue a £200,000 bond which would pay off at a generous 6%, as well as land rights for a modest 3 shillings an acre. MacGregor would eventually raise funds worth £3.2 billion -at today's prices- for the entirely fictional principality; this makes him arguably the most successful con-men of all time. [more inside]

AVE PEREGRINE!

Nova Roma is an international organization dedicated to the study and restoration of ancient Roman culture. From its founding until it ceased to be the center of Imperial authority Rome laid the foundation for our modern Western civilization. Founded 2,750 years after the Eternal City itself, Nova Roma seeks to bring back those golden times, not through the sword and the legions, however, but through the spread of knowledge and through their own virtuous example.

Micronations, from Hasbro!

Micronations have existed for some time. Some were a frauds and shams. Some were seized or destroyed. Some for profit and others for promotion. Australia had a rash of them. Meanwhile others were lost dreams that others wish to resurrect. Some were created for artistic reasons. Some were meant as protests both playful and serious. Some dedicated to old ideas and others to new ones.

"This the TTF micronation page.

"This the TTF micronation page. A micronation is a real nation or people without any official recognition." [warning: comes with sound] Slightly more seriously: We've discussed Sealand before. Here are some other microstate links.

Kingdom of Talossa

Kingdom of Talossa According to their site, the Kingdom of Talossa is an independent, sovereign nation in North America which seceded peacefully from the United States in 1979. It's a nation in miniature. So when you were seven and declared your room the Republic of Me, don't run to the shrink. You're in good company.
