Here are some recent DJ mixes for you to enjoy.

If you're looking for some uplifting dance music to help you get your week going, Goldroom's Otoño Mix 2011 is a very soulful nu-disco collection that pairs nicely with The Magician's Magic Tape Sixteen. Need something with more energy? Edwin van Cleef's November mix is a bit more hands in the air, perfectly suited for the elimination of afternoon doldrums. [more inside]

"Back in June, the Guardian gave it a go and in our opinion missed much of the point..."

DJHistory.com's list of 100 Greatest Dance Records may not be definitive or feature your favorite record, but it's hard to say that each and every record on there hasn't earned its place, from the Northern Soul swing of "The Clapping Song" to the post-ironic dancehall of "Pon De Floor." "I'm on the Conan show / show / show / show."

In part five of Jon Ronson's Escape and Control, he talks to Patrice Wilson, the man behind Rebecca Black's "Friday" (YT) and finds himself part of the Ark Music Factory assembly line. [more inside]

Krafty Kuts, Halloween Minimix, BBC Radio 1

Minimixes have become a fixture of Annie Nightingale's BBC Radio 1 show, but this week's is seasonally appropriate as Krafty Kuts does a not-quite-seven-minute mix that romps through multiple genres, all to celebrate that spookiest of holidays. [more inside]

The September Issue

September seemed to be a good month for nu-disco and synthpop DJ mixes. While Cinnamon Chasers, Penguin PrisonCosmonauts and Mustang all included the name of the month in their releases, Justin Faust probably takes the top spot with his punch, ecstatic The Brisket Biscuit Mixtape, followed very closely by Anoraak's Night Colors Mix. Com Truise, "BrokenDate"

The Will Joines-directed video for Com Truise's "BrokenDate" is a pitch-perfect tribute to the 80s/90s cyberpunk aesthetic, with nods to Blade Runner and Tron, among others. The track is taken from the artist's latest album, Galactic Melt.

Quiet Intro | Instrumental Kicker | Quiet Verse | Heavy Chorus

All Linkin Park songs "look" the same.

"If I could do what I want right now, I would put out my next album, you could download it from my site at as high a bit-rate as you want, pay $4 through PayPal."

Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails plans to join Radiohead in the self-distribution game. Reznor's public feud with Interscope records reached its head recently; the musician was forced to finance the alternate reality game promotion of Year Zero himself and was shocked at the record label's pricing in Australia. With the release of Year Zero Remixed, Reznor will be free to go his own way.

He had me at "Peter Saville's Factory Records logo is cut from the same conceptual cloth as the P.I.L logo."

Matthew Ingram at Stylus pontificates various band logos, revealing some secret origins and offering some perspectives on consistency and cultural signifiers built into them.

Put. The. Bedazzler. Down.

"Bling Ballz" is a song by The Bassturd featuring MC Keef and Hermes. It is about the fine art of testicular enhancement through the application of "bling." [One-link YouTube Post / More songs on MySpace]

"Oh, I own that song?"

Peter Gabriel has introduced a new iTunes plugin for Windows XP called The Filter. Using the All Music Guide in a fashion similar to Pandora, the software builds playlists from your library for you after you select a few tracks. Their marketing copy tells you that you should "Prepare to be reengaged and reinvigorated by your iTunes library."

OS X, WinAMP, and WMP versions are slated for the near future.

Norah Jones over Miles Davis? Really?

Google Trends now includes chart information about what people are listening to while using Google Talk. Some genres have questionable entries, but it's still fascinating for chart followers. Mind you, I don't remember signing off on sharing that information when I got the new version of Google Talk...

44 minute singles, working with the KLF, and now a Podcast!

The Orb, known as one of the principal architects of ambient house, have receded into relative obscurity since the popular heyday of the electronic music movement in the US. Despite changes in the lineup - the group now consists of a duo featuring founding member Dr (Duncan Robert) Alex Paterson and Thomas Fehlmann. Paterson's DJ sets are the stuff of legend and I was pleased as punch that they've just put together a podcast (actually a 50.8mb .zip file containing an mp3) that's available through their minimal website.
