Muxtape is back up! Kinda. Muxtape is back up with 12 artists currently signed up, and they plan to allow other bands to sign up in the near future. While Muxtape is temporarily down, Opentape has come to fill in. More RIAA bait:

Mixwit, which uses SeeqPod and SkreemR to find music online; there is an option to link directly to any online mp3 file.
8tracks, where music can be uploaded or selected from the 8tracks library.

"Please remove this script, it can only contribute to getting the site shut down." The RIAA has taken action against muxtape.com.

The RIAA has taken action against the much-beloved muxtape. Alas, the many predictions regarding muxtape.com's inevitable demise have proven to be true.. With the recent speculation regarding Pandora, who else is next? Also, here is what Metafilter users though of Muxtape the first time it was mentioned on the blue.

Twones is a music tracker that monitors Last.FM, YouTube, MySpace, iTunes, Muxtape, and a few other services. It's officially in private beta, but limited signups seem to have opened today (no guarantees as to how long that link will continue to work). It currently only works in Firefox 2.0 and up, as an add-on.
