On Sunday,
Karmanoia, one of Berlin's most interesting underground clubs, closed its doors for the last time. Although not as storied or well-known as
Tacheles - also facing
tough times - and easy to pass without noticing, Karmanoia had a loyal crowd of oddballs frequenting it, and was notable not just for its pirate-ship-like interior, but also for the full Labyrinth built into its upper portions. The club's funeral took place directly after locking the doors at midnight on Sunday, with an orchestra dressed like skeletons leading a parade to a nearby canal to bury the key in a watery grave.

J. Tithonus Pednaud herein presents for your edification and enlightenment a
curious collection of human marvels. You may call them oddities, freaks or monstrosities—whatever you will—but I call them incredible, persevering, resourceful and marvelous human beings. I chronicle their inspirational stories of triumph over nature, fate and the judgment of man.

Frozen Dead Guy Days.
Thousands of waving spectators line the streets of Nederland, Colo. (pop. 1,394), as a parade filled with skeletons, helmeted Vikings, pompadoured Elvises and antique hearses makes its way down First Street to mark the beginning of Frozen Dead Guy Days—a celebration that’s part Mardi Gras, part county fair, and all tongue-in-cheek. The
2008 celebration will be held March 7-9.

Virtual Tour of Steve's Weird House. "Stephen resides in a Victorian home that is a cluttered combination of museum, library and art gallery, decorated with that old-world Addam's Family charm. Not only is every inch of every wall covered with art, but all the ceilings are also decorated." (

So you've had your appetite whetted by the
Potted Meat Museum (as seen
here), been mildly puzzled by the
Toaster Museum, and found yourself subtly repulsed by the
Mountain Dew Memorabilia Museum. You've stumbled through the sparsely populated halls of
The Ohio Power Transformers Museum, and wondered why exactly
Martin has so many owls. Once, on a dare, you sneaked a look at the
AOL CD Preservation Guild and Museum, and came away with only a lingering pain in your knee when the wind is from the south.
And yet there you are, spending nights alone, bathed in the blue glow of the screen, wondering where you can find more disturbing collections. Fine,
here.
