Anti-social Software: Network Your Nemesis-es!

Nemester "an online community that connects paranoids, egotists, villains, and monomaniacs through networks of competing agendas and incompatable ideologies", (and the ideal social web for MetaFilter members).
From the entertainingly paranoid Lyle Zapato, who previously brought us Metric Time (MeFi'd), the Republic of Cascadia homepage (MeFi'd), the Pacific Tree Octopus (MeFi'd) and the Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie (Re-pea-ted-ly MeFi'd).
Not Another Whacky Asian Ad

Go to the "Wok-Star" sauce homepage, click "Watch the TV Spot" and you see what at first glance is one of those whacky Asian TV Ads, with whooshing graphics, over-acting, and the yelling of slogans.

The thing is, it's a fake. The ad was made in Australia, for an English-speaking market, as a parody of whacky asian ads. The performers are Vietnamese-Australians* speaking Vietnamese in an exaggerated way.

Some people think it's insulting, some people think it's hilarious, I'm just puzzled. Are the makers assuming we'll think it's a real ad, imported from china, untranslated? Or do they think we're all so culturally literate that we're in on the gag?.

* the main guy is award-winning actor, writer and Extreme Violinist, Hung Le.

Look around you... The world is an hilarious place, and there's no better way to confirm that fact than by watching low-budget educational films. If your middle school experience was anything like mine, then you'll remember the intense rush of joy that you felt when you arrived at class to find a TV cart set up at the front of the room. Maybe some of you were excited about the chance to catch up on sleep or pass notes or whatever, but I watched those damn things with a passion, noting every flubbed line, analog-synth-driven soundtrack, and polyester-filled wardrobe like they were keys to a parallel universe.

Thanks to the Internet Archive's AV Geeks collection of films, I've recently rekindled my love affair with the genre and with last night's premiere of Look Around You on BBC America, I've been catapulted directly into geek/kitsch heaven! The series parodies 70s/80s science films and nails the look and tone of these series with such astonishing accuracy that it made my big, comfy couch feel like a cramped uncomfortable desk (with the chair attached). With this show, Coupling, and Trailer Park Boys, BBCA is fast on its way to becoming my favorite network! (Sorry Cartoon Network, it's nothing personal... =)

Baywatch

Baywatch , as practiced in Birmingham U.K.
A little spoof of Baywatch, filmed around one of Brums landmark pieces of public art.
It made me laugh anyway. (windows media player required)

Dow Fights Parody Site

Dow Chemical takes over a parody site Long time reader, first time poster...
Gay doll gets UPS all hot and bothered. Apparently Billy, the first openly gay doll, has his hands full fending off UPS lawyers for trademark infringement, because of the BPS logo and outfit Billy is sporting. I've read elsewhere that Totem says it's a parody and doesn't plan to back down. The thing that made me laugh the hardest was the collection of limited editions at the homo depot.
