Undecided on election day? Sat through all the debates and still not sure who's right and who's wrong? What you're really looking for is an endorsment by people you can trust completely, you can look up to, true heroes? Well, J. Caleb Mozzocco has taken the trouble to interview a representative cross section of superheroes
and is starting to see a pattern. [more inside]

The president of Penguin Canada has been fired
and is facing a sexual harrassment suit. Oh, and a second woman
has alleged harrassment as well. There's some criticism of Penguin
also for trying to cover up the facts at first. And there's a portrait of the "artist
" as a young man. Sounds like it would make a good book ...

Like penguins? Hey, who doesn't, right? So, head over to PenguinScience
for all your penguin needs. Recommended: their "Webisode" documentary on Blondie
, the rare "blonde" penguin, which also features footage of another thoroughly adorable genetic mutation: an all black
penguin. [more inside]

After an abysmal, embarrasing attempt
at collaborative fiction by Penguin Books, a new site takes a stab at the Wikinovel
, this time, it appears, with a little better organization and planning. Though, still no users.

"A Million Penguins
is an experiment in creative writing and community. Anyone can join in. Anyone can write. Anyone can edit. Let’s see if the crowds are not only wise, but creative. Or will too many cooks spoil the broth?"

The Penguin Classics Library Complete Collection
. "From Edwin A. Abbott to Emile Zola, the 1,082 titles in the Penguin Classics Complete Library total nearly half a million pages."
The weight of the books is approximately 700 pounds. Amazon is offering free shipping! I wonder how big the box would be waiting at my door. (via

The history of the Linux's penguin logo.
Linus: So when you think "penguin", you should be imagining a slighly overweight penguin, sitting down after having gorged itself, and having just burped. It's sitting there with a beatific smile - the world is a good place to be when you have just eaten a few gallons of raw fish and you can feel another "burp" coming. Tux gallery here.

is a magicians' supply vendor with a nice bonus: almost all the tricks/props/gimmicks have videos of professional (well, competent, at the very least) magicians performing the tricks/props/gimmicks in question. (This
is quite well done.) Everything is categorized--street tricks, close-up tricks, levitation, et cetera--and apprently this magic thing is serious business. The feats are slick, the instructions are largely on DVD, and the community does not expose any secrets . . . but that's what keeps you looking, right?
