A short documentary on John Nese: Soda pop obsessive. His store Galco's in Los Angeles sells more than two-hundred kinds of soda pop, particularly favoring small-label, glass-bottled and cane-sweetened fare. Yay. [more inside]

And you thought Pepsi's redesign was just crappy. Well no. According to this ridiculous internal document (6MB, PDF), apparently leaked from their ad agency, the sugar-water's rebranding was 5,000 years in the making, and molded by the same elemental forces that shape the very cosmos.
Warning: Hilariously meaningless corporate drivel inside. [via]

F.A.O. Schwartz (doesn't everybody think of that first when they hear the name?) has come up with a Design Your Own Muppet Workshop (with appropriate video intro). Limited design options (they're the "Whatnot" Muppet extras, no identifiable characters) and a $90 pricetag for a custom-made Mup, but the design process is still fun (and better than their previous Design Your Own Tutu).

"What is the sound of color? We asked that question of 5 musicians. We assigned each musician a different color. They wrote 5 tracks. We gave the colors and tracks that inspired them to 5 directors." The Sound of Color contains the songs and videos that were created. The site and free downloads are only available through March 15. (Via Carolina Vigna-Marú) [more inside]

Temple of Zoom. Adding a twist on Flash-based stick figure games and physics-oriented platformers like N-Game, comes Matsushita/Panasonic's followup to Toshiba's "Tobby" line of promotional games. Collect dots Pac-Man (Java) style, in addition to powerups resembling digital viewfinder icons. Jump atop camera lenses which double as elevators, while dodging the occasional Red-Eye sensor. Your "prize", should you choose to accept it, is a bottle of soda pop coupon for the new Lumix camera. via

40 years ago, the Vicious Cycles motorcycle club assaulted a construction worker before taking to the road. Fortunately, filmmakers Chuck Menville (father of voice artist Scott Menville) and Len Janson were on hand to film the gang's misdeeds.
Menville and Janson's picture would ultimately become part of a trilogy, with Blaze Glory and Sargent Swell of the Mounties produced wit similar eye-catching style.
Decades later, the filmmakers' work would be echoed in another tale of conflict, in addition to a product-themed homage to more recent hipster subculture.

Clearification Microsoft is launching a viral marketing campaign for Vista. It's only half done - it wraps up in January. Demetri Martin stars in a series of webisodes about his "rare condition". The best part of the campaign are the idle ramblings of Demetri on the main page.
The campaign consists of an rss feed, a podcast, and the webisodes.

PepsiBlue! PerpetualKid! Get your consumer on! Linked to by some guys, I started digging around the treasure trove that is PerpetualKid. Sure, they've got a lot of that Spencer's Gifts type crap but its more fun than that. Trebuchet? Meat pencil toppers? Chew by numbers? I'm sure you'll have seen some of these products before but others, maybe not so much. Bonus links: gummy steak, strawberry-flavored "bacon" (also gummy), and ring8 bananaphone.

It's the Meow Mix House, where ten cats will vie to become Meow Mix's Feline Vice President of Research and Development. (And, win or lose, they will all be adopted by families.) The webcams. For when you really want to karaoke with a severed deer's head, but just don't know where to start. Do you have a cousin, grandparent, or spouse who enjoys really large, high-concept, expensive gag gifts? Look no further. Buck the Singing Trophy is the latest product from Gemmy industries, whose previous culture-changing invention was Big Mouth Billy Bass. It's already sold out at Wal-Mart and most online stores, so you'll either have to wait until the new year or head to Ebay to get your crate of Pepsi Blue. And really, has Pepsi Blue ever tasted so strange (WMV)?

Pimp My Burger. Burger King Germany produced a full-length parody of Pimp My Ride, right down to the before/after camera swipes, the theme song, and "4-inch buns." If all Pepsi Blue viral marketing campaigns were as well-done as this one, I don't think I'd complain about them as much.

Old time hockey, eh? I always wondered what companies are targeting me as a market. Well, Spawn nailed me good for Hanson brother and Dr. Evil dolls^H^H^H^H^Haction figures. Their site's a wee bit pokey, but it makes me drool over their offerings. Of course the true Hansonites already know where to go, right?
