'Let England Shake' films by Seamus Murphy

Dublin-raised photojournalist Seamus Murphy has received six World Press Photo awards and won widespread acclaim for his work in Afghanistan and the Middle East, including a World Understanding Award in 2005. Recently, he created short films for all twelve of the songs on PJ Harvey’s new album, Let England Shake, after a road trip across England during what he called “one of the worst winters in living memory.” The films have been released gradually since January (previously) and now you may watch all of them: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.

How I Wrote

How I Wrote is a series of videos from The Guardian where musicians perform a song after talking about it a little bit. Among the artists who've taken part are Rufus Wainwright, Kristin Hersh, Corinne Bailey Rae, Laura Marling, Keren Ann, Patrick Wolf, Elbow, Gruff Rhys, Warpaint, Cee Lo Green, Antony and the Johnsons, P. J. Harvey and Emmy the Great, who sings a song about the Royal Wedding, appropriately enough for today (though I suppose the Cee Lo Green song is appropriate too).

P J Harvey debuts new songs on TV and will design Zoetrope literary magazine

Earlier this month, P J Harvey appeared on The Andrew Marr Show and performed a new song called "Let England Shake" as Gordon Brown watched on a television. Harvey debuted the song last summer, along with another new song entitled "The Last Living Rose." In an interview prior to the performance, Harvey revealed that she wrote "about half" of her new album on her three alternately-tuned autoharps. Harvey loyalists may recall that she seemed to enjoy playing the unusual instrument on her last solo tour. [more inside]
